Software Engineer Position at Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin is seeking five Software Engineers (two senior, three mid-level) to support the IMIS program, a long-running sustainment platform that supports the F-22 fighter aircraft fleet. The application collects, stores, and manages maintenance and operational data used to support aircraft sustainment activities.

This is primarily a modernization and sustainment effort, not a greenfield application. New team members will augment existing agile teams that are responsible for migrating and modernizing legacy applications while maintaining ongoing functionality.

IMIS is a collection of desktop-based applications used in support of F-22 sustainment operations.

Key characteristics include:

• C++ GUI-based desktop applications
• Runs primarily in Linux/Unix environments
• Integrates with Oracle databases
• Supports maintenance and operational data management
• Some applications communicate across security-domain boundaries
• Applications are deployed directly to desktop and server environments rather than modern cloud-native infrastructure

The team is currently modernizing portions of the platform while maintaining support for existing systems.

• Migrating legacy applications from older Unix/Solaris-based environments
• Performing "lift-and-shift" style migrations where appropriate
• Modernizing applications that have limited documentation
• Enhancing maintainability and sustainability of existing software
• Adding selected REST API capabilities to support newer applications

A major challenge is that many of these applications have existed for years and contain significant business logic with incomplete or outdated documentation.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Enhancing existing desktop applications
• Supporting Linux-based GUI applications
• Developing and modifying C++ code
• Implementing object-oriented solutions
• Working with existing architecture and software designs
• Migrating legacy software
• Refactoring existing code
• Supporting operating system upgrades
• Improving maintainability of older applications
• Adding modern interfaces where needed
• Developing Oracle database integrations
• Writing SQL queries and stored procedures
• Supporting CRUD operations
• Troubleshooting data access issues
• Creating and maintaining unit tests
• Working with Google Test
• Supporting integration testing
• Participating in code reviews
