Lab Technician

Title: Laboratory Technician Location: Johnston, IA (50131) Duration: 12 Months Pay Rate : $24/h Description: This position supports a research team developing and evaluating novel breeding methods. With guidance from a supervisor, the successful candidate will conduct research activities to provide molecular biology and plant tissue culture support. This person will coordinate with various members of the team to assist with multiple efforts. Responsibilities: Execute plant tissue culture work including aspects of plant transformation, plant propagation, and conduct analytical assays of plant tissue samples as needed. Assist with molecular biology tasks as needed Work in and maintain a safe work environment; includes using aseptic, sterile techniques Document details of the data, ability to analyze data and interpret results Recording pertinent information in proprietary and standard software applications Qualifications: Ideal candidate has an Associate or Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences, preferably with industry-related experience or equivalent amount of relevant education and experience. Molecular biology experience is desirable, including techniques such as nucleic acid isolation methods, PCR experience, DNA vector construction, and gel electrophoresis. Plant transformation experience in classroom or industry setting is highly desirable Problem solving skills are required. Attention to detail and ability to stay focused while performing repetitive tasks is required Ability to work well with teams, as well as the ability to work independently is required Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills are required Self-motivated and goal-oriented person with excellent work ethics and time management.
