About the Job: The Facilities Management Department is seeking a Technical Coordinator with a strategic focus on asset performance and operational excellence to support the future of San Diego International Airport. With the opening of the transformative NewT1 on the horizon, this role plays a critical part in bridging the gap between data and field operations—translating insights from maintenance management systems into smarter, more efficient infrastructure management. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact opportunity for a professional who thrives at the intersection of technology and operations. The Technical Coordinator collaborates closely with trades staff, contractors, and project teams to respond to real‑time facilities needs, review construction impacts, and drive continuous improvement in maintenance strategies. The role is instrumental in ensuring assets are maintained, tracked, and optimized for long‑term reliability, safety, and efficiency—keeping the airport environment dynamic, resilient, and future‑ready. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, operational awareness, and a passion for improving how infrastructure supports people every day. Success in this role means driving measurable improvements in asset performance, minimizing disruptions for travelers and tenants, and contributing to a world‑class airport experience. The Technical Coordinator will not just maintain the infrastructure—they will help redefine it, at one of the busiest single‑runway airports in the world during a pivotal era of growth and innovation. What You’ll Do: Data Analysis and Compliance Monitoring: Analyze and interpret data from the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track maintenance performance, review and approve change orders, identify risks, and provide data‑driven input on design, equipment selection, and cost estimates. Asset Management and Reliability Strategy: Utilize CMMS to track asset condition and performance, manage work orders and maintenance workloads, and support the development of a reliability‑centered maintenance strategy; leverage AI‑driven tools to optimize asset reliability and operational efficiency. Trend Analysis and Facilities Response Coordination: Apply statistical analysis to CMMS data to identify maintenance trends; collaborate with the Airport Communication Center as a first responder for facilities needs, coordinating effective and efficient trade responses. Construction Impact Review and Facilities Liaison: Represent Facilities Management interests by reviewing construction work plans, identifying operational impacts, coordinating mitigation strategies, and ensuring construction activities align with maintenance and operational priorities. Strategic Recommendations and Communications Planning: Present recommendations to Facilities Management leadership and the Executive Leadership Team on maintenance logistics procedures; develop communication plans for both internal and external stakeholders. Operational Driving: Perform tasks and oversight of projects in security‑controlled areas within the AOA (Air Operations Area) and at other locations across the SDIA Campus in Airport Authority Vehicles. The Skills You Need: Technical Skills – Anticipate and analyze project designs and specifications; review plans, schedules, and costs for operational impacts; apply standards with strong attention to detail; generate, communicate, and problem‑solve effectively. Facilitation Skills – Work autonomously and collaboratively to coordinate deliverables, manage relationships, drive expectations, and gain support for ideas and solutions. Project Management Skills – Translate project requirements into clear strategies; drive collaboration and process efficiency to ensure projects are completed on time and aligned with goals. Interpersonal Ability – Build relationships, manage expectations, develop others, and recognize achievements; communicate and present ideas clearly across digital, written, and verbal platforms. Problem‑Solving and Agility – Analyze challenges, generate solutions, and adapt quickly to evolving priorities, obstacles, and unexpected situations. Leveraging Technology – Use electronic systems and tools effectively; leverage AI‑driven technologies to optimize processes and enhance operational efficiency. Requirements The Experience You Need to Have: Five years of construction project management, project cost controls, construction safety, architectural design, or engineering experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a major in business administration, human resource management, organizational development, or a closely related field. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy. Successful completion of a fingerprint‑based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment. Preferred Experience, Education, Certification, and Licenses: Experience in logistics, operations, facilities, airport facilities maintenance, or aerospace and aviation maintenance preferred. Designation as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP).
