Location Charlottesville, VA Work Shift Third (Nights) Overview Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Freestanding Emergency Department. This is a full‑time night shift (12‑hour shift) position in Charlottesville, VA. Up to $20,000 sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates. The Free‑Standing Emergency Room is a 13‑bed facility seeing about 60 patients a day, staffed by a physician, PA, and additional support including ED techs. This well‑supported department is centered around teamwork and a patient‑first mindset. In an emergency, quick access to skilled care makes all the difference. Sentara offers access to emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The management team has built a cohesive and dedicated care team to serve the Charlottesville area. Required call: Full‑time nurses have 16 hours of required call per 6 weeks. Part‑time nurses have 12 hours of required call per 6 weeks. Responsibilities and Clinical Expectations The Registered Nursing (RN) professional is responsible for performing competent nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation). The RN also meets standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, resource utilization, and environmental health. Education Degree or diploma in registered nursing (required). Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred. Certification / Licensure Registered nursing license (required). ACLS required prior to completion of orientation. PALS required prior to completion of orientation. BLS required within 90 days of hire. Experience 2 years of emergency room experience (preferred). Critical care experience in a hospital required. Ability to manage complex cases in fast‑paced environments. Strong communication with patients and providers.
