Speech-Language Pathologist

Qualifications
Education/Certification: Master's degree in speech-language pathology Valid Texas license as speech-language pathologist granted by State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology OR Bachelor's degree and valid speech therapy certificate from State Board for Educator Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills: Skill in test and measurements used to assess communication disorders and conditions Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience: One year of supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Align the major functions of the assignment with district goals such that all students succeed.
1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
2. Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech-language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services.
3. Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations and data.
4. Write determination of need and eligibility reports following state and federal guidelines.
5. Develop IEP's utilizing criterion referenced testing.
6. Report students toward achieving their goals and objectives every six-weeks.
7. Maintain up to date PEIMS reports for campus assignment.
8. Submits appropriate Medicaid reports.
9. Participate in IEP Team Meetings regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.
10. Provide professional development in assigned schools to assist school personnel to identify and understand communication deficits in students.
11. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the students.
12. Create an environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
13. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct or, when appropriate, the Behavior Interaction Plan.
14. Supervise, as needed, licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s).
15. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and implement changes based on findings.
16. Assist in the selection of materials, equipment and other documents required.
17. Compile, maintain, and file all records and other documents required in a campus working folder and student'' audit folder.
18. Comply with all district and campus routine and regulations.
19. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
20. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
21. Demonstrate needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Frequent travel to multiple work locations (including schools and homes) as assigned. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
