Senior Engineer - Commodity Index Platform Lead

Senior Engineer – Commodity Technology Bank of America’s BofA Commodity Technology is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead an engineering team supporting New York–based Commodities sales & trading desks. The role partners directly with traders, sales, and quantitative research to design, build, and evolve front‑office risk and pricing systems on the proprietary Quartz platform. Responsibilities Ensures the design and engineering approach for complex features aligns with the broader portfolio solution Defines the technology tool stack for the solution and evaluates and adapts new testing tools/frameworks and practices for the team Enables the team with continuous integration/continuous development capabilities and engages with other technical stakeholders to maintain the CI/CD pipeline Guides and influences the team on design and best practices for high code performance – e.g., pairing, code reviews Provides end‑to‑end delivery of complex features, including automation, for single or multiple teams at the program level Conducts research, design prototyping and other exploration activities such as evaluating new toolsets and components for release management, CI/CD, and feature delivery Works with stakeholders to establish high‑level solution needs and with architects for technical requirements Leads and grows a high‑performing team of 10–15 engineers: coaching, goal setting, and creating a collaborative front‑office‑centric culture Engages the desk daily by partnering with trading, sales, and quants to translate strategies and models into robust, production‑grade systems prioritizing high‑impact desk outcomes Architects and builds on Quartz, driving end‑to‑end engineering of the Commodity Index platform, modernizing components and eliminating technical debt Delivers real‑time risk by implementing and supporting intraday risk for commodity index and derivatives Supports pre‑trade and client connectivity by defining and supporting future strategic implementations Ensures production excellence – monitoring, alerting, incident response, root‑cause analysis, capacity planning, release management, and change control Required Qualifications Leadership: 7–10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years leading front‑office–facing teams delivering to trading/sales; proven people leadership across hiring, coaching, and performance management. Communication: Ability to engage senior business stakeholders, translate requirements, and negotiate priorities under time pressure. Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of commodity index construction and maintenance, commodity derivatives (futures, options on futures, swaps), curve/term‑structure dynamics, spreads, calendars, seasonality, and risk sensitivities/Greeks. Risk Systems: Hands‑on experience building real‑time risk/pricing and analytics platforms used on trading desks; strong grasp of PnL, VaR, stress, scenarios, intraday limits, and pre‑trade checks. Quartz / Python / ReactJS: Extensive development experience with Python for distributed services/analytics (ideally in Quartz or a similar platform) and ReactJS for rich, trader‑focused UIs. Agile Development: Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, code review, secure coding, and change management in a regulated environment; familiarity with build pipelines and artifact management. Desired Qualifications C#/.NET for legacy components and migration strategy. Experience with commodities venues and data (ICE, CME, LME, Bloomberg/Refinitiv) and pricing libraries. Prior hands‑on work with quant libraries and collaboration with quants. Minimum Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
