Maintenance Supervisor (Process Coach)

The Maintenance Supervisor (Process Coach) oversees a team of UAW skilled trades employees in the final assembly area of a high-volume manufacturing plant. This role leads electricians, pipefitters, and millwrights, ensuring effective preventive maintenance, rapid response to equipment breakdowns, and optimal assignment of work. The supervisor uses strong technical knowledge in robotics, PLCs, conveyors, and general mechanical and electrical systems to keep production running smoothly in a fast-paced, unionized environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of approximately 20–45 UAW skilled trades employees, including electricians, pipefitters, and millwrights, in the final assembly area.
- Plan, assign, and oversee preventive maintenance (PM) tasks to ensure equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, assess the situation, and assign the right skilled tradesperson to resolve issues efficiently.
- Monitor and manage daily maintenance activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring work is completed safely and on time.
- Generate, review, and maintain maintenance reports and documentation to track performance, downtime, and completed work.
- Apply strong technical knowledge of robotics, PLCs, conveyors, and other production equipment to support troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production and other departments to minimize disruption to operations.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and direction to skilled trades employees in a union environment.
- Ensure compliance with plant procedures and maintenance standards while promoting safe work practices.
- Make quick, informed decisions under pressure to support continuous production flow.
- Proven experience supervising skilled trades employees in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs and the ability to support PLC-based troubleshooting.
- Strong technical knowledge of robotics, particularly Fanuc robots.
- Experience working with and maintaining conveyor systems in a high-volume production setting.
- Solid background in maintenance within an automotive or manufacturing environment.
- Technical proficiency in both mechanical and electrical maintenance disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to perform and oversee preventive maintenance activities.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex equipment and production systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a very fast-paced environment and make quick decisions.
- Comfort and effectiveness in overseeing UAW skilled trades personnel.
- Some form of degree or formal technical education is helpful.
- Experience with maintenance management or maintenance supervision roles.
- Familiarity with a wide range of production equipment and industrial systems.
- Ability to generate and interpret maintenance reports and performance data.
- Strong communication and leadership skills for coordinating across teams and shifts.

Work Environment
This role operates in a high-volume final assembly area within a very fast-paced manufacturing plant. The schedule requires flexibility with hours and shifts, and some team members work extended weeks of 60–70 hours depending on operational needs. Shifts rotate approximately every six months, so the ability to adapt to changing schedules is important. The work involves frequent interaction on the plant floor around conveyors, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, and other production machinery. The dress code is business casual, with attire such as polo shirts and similar professional yet practical clothing suitable for a plant environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $49.00/hr.
