Job Overview TNAA TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Elgin, Illinois. Job Details Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Duration: 13 weeks Hours: 40 per week, 8-hour shifts Shift: 8 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Responsibilities Assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients during pre-, intra- and postoperative phases. Provide basic bedside care and administer prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions. Serve as communication liaison between patients' families and the operating team. Ensure that the correct procedure is performed on the correct patient. Initiate patient education plan as prescribed; teach patients and families medication and home care needs. Respond to comfort and safety needs, handle specimens accurately, monitor equipment, and inventory surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure (circulating roles). Selection and handling of surgical instruments during procedures; inventory items pre‑ and post‑procedure (scrub roles). Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care, control bleeding, and suture patients (RN First Assistant). Qualifications 1–2 years of recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, and/or RN first assistant. Valid ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications; 2 years of clinical experience. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lean, and stoop for long periods; lift up to 20–50 pounds as required. Comfortable working in an operating room environment with awareness of hazards and infection control.
