Events Director

Assume full management and leadership responsibility for all Event Center and Recreation services, staff, facilities, and activities. Provides oversight, direction and support to the County Fair Manager to ensure the effective administration and successful execution of the annual County Fair program. Provides oversight and support to the Shooting Sports Manager to ensure the safe, effective and successful operation of the Shooting Sports Complex and its programs. Manage the development and implementation of Event Center and Recreation goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; establish appropriate service and staffing levels; allocate resources accordingly. Work with the County Commissioners to develop and maintain short and long range planning; recommend policies to the Board and assist in their formulation; ensure the philosophical objectives of the Board are integrated into County policies and goals. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; direct the implementation of changes. Work cooperatively with Event Center and recreation staff, Commissioners, city officials and other agency administrators to effectively achieve goals; maintain a cooperative working relationship with other agency staff in a similar field of service; maintain a working relationship with other professional and service groups in the community and state. Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies. Assign tasks, projects and monitor assigned personnel. Manage and participate in the development and administration of the annual capital, operating, and other assigned budgets; anticipate and request additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; regularly review request for services, past spending and monthly reports; direct, monitor and approve expenditures; direct the preparation of and implement budgetary adjustments as necessary. Coordinate department activities with those of other divisions, departments, outside agencies and organizations; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence. Develop and schedule equipment purchase and replacement. Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of multi-events facilities management. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints. Represent the Event Center and Recreation Department to other County departments, elected officials and outside agencies; explain and interpret Event Center and Recreation programs, policies, and activities; negotiate and resolve sensitive, significant and controversial issues. Meet with management staff to identify and resolve problems; assign projects and areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures. Prepare and update policy and procedure manuals. Work with legal counsel to formulate contracts and agreements Lead the local planning team for major national events. Negotiate national event contracts. Participate in grant application processes relating to assigned department. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures. Direct, attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's in Business, Public Administration or a related field and seven (7) years experience with progressively responsible management and supervisory duties which demonstrate administrative ability and leadership qualities; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of County organization, goals, objectives, policies, procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of information systems, technology management and systems integration in a government environment. Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a comprehensive multi-events facility. Knowledge of organization and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of multi-events facility programs, policies and operational needs. Knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of multi-events facility program development and administration. Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, procedures, and practices utilized in multi-events facility maintenance and repair. Knowledge of recent developments, current literature and sources of information regarding multi-events facilities. Knowledge of advanced principles and practices of budget preparation and administration. Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Knowledge of organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of assigned department. Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment. Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping and reporting. Knowledge of principles of contract administration. Knowledge of crowd management. Knowledge of advanced negotiation skills. Knowledge of facility management & operation. Knowledge of principles and practices of working safely. Ability to operate modern office equipment. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to provide administrative and professional leadership and direction for staff. Ability to develop, implement and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient Event services. Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the work of personnel; delegate authority and responsibility. Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff. Ability to identify and respond to community and Board of County Commissioners' issues, concerns and needs. Ability to prepare and administer complex budgets; allocate resources in a cost-effective manner. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals. Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate new service delivery methods, procedures and techniques. Ability to oversee and prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports.
