Senior Electrical Engineer

Position Overview Senior Electrical Engineers are responsible for a variety of the most complex and professional electrical engineering work in connection with the design, construction, and inspection of electrical facilities and installations. Knowledge and Abilities Engineering theory and practice related to the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and facilities Methods of organizing and directing engineering project teams Specification writing and estimating Building codes and safety codes governing electrical installations Engineering economics and financing Construction inspection methods Principles of effective supervision Plan, organize, and direct the work of others Conduct field inspections and surveys Check drawings and specifications Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with county agencies and commercial firms Prepare correspondence and reports Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Either: Three years of experience in Sacramento County service in the class of Associate Electrical Engineer. Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. AND three years of experience comparable to that in the Associate Electrical Engineer class in Sacramento County service. Note: “Experience” means full‑time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states otherwise. Part‑time paid experience may be accumulated and prorated to meet the total requirements. If a minimum qualification includes an educational or certificate requirement, applicants must submit proof with the application. General Qualifications Driver’s License: A valid California driver license, Class C or higher, is required prior to appointment to this class. Certification Requirements: Incumbents may be required to obtain a certification from a recognized state, national, or international association within two years of date of hire or assignment. Some positions require one year of verifiable experience prior to certification and an additional year thereafter. Incumbents may also be required to complete a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education every three years. Physical Requirements: Work hours: frequent – working in excess of 40 hours a week; occasional – working irregular hours during emergencies. Emotional/psychological: frequent – public contact, decision making affecting health and safety of employees/residents, responding to changing priorities. Visual: frequent – good overall vision, reading, close‑up work, peripheral vision. Some positions require the ability to discern the full spectrum of colors. Hearing: frequent – hearing normal speech and on the telephone. Talking: frequent – talking in person and on the telephone. Mobility: frequent – performing keyboard operations and sitting for long periods; occasional – walking on uneven terrain at construction sites.
