What You’ll Do

• Operate dozers, excavators, loaders, and other equipment for fine and rough grading
• Prepare construction sites by grading land and maintaining level surfaces
• Support roadway construction and install stormwater lines
• Install erosion control systems and assist with pipe laying
• Work efficiently with small crews to complete earthwork and site development tasks

Essential Skills

• Proficiency with heavy equipment: bulldozers, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, scrapers, dump trucks, motor graders, mini excavators, skid steers, bobcats, and rubber‑tire loaders
• Strong understanding of earthwork , grading, and construction processes
• Ability to work safely, follow direction, and support team operations

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with both fine and rough grading
• Comfortable working in small, collaborative crews
• Reliable, safety‑focused, and committed to quality work

Work Environment

• 40–50 hour work weeks, primarily Monday–Friday with occasional Saturdays
• Small crew structure for better communication and teamwork
• Work performed on base, with occasional assignments on the Eastern Shore
• Required PPE: hard hat, steel‑toed boots, safety glasses, reflective vest, and appropriate work clothing

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.
