A primary focus will be reviewing historical financial records, addressing reporting discrepancies, improving billing and collections processes, and establishing reliable financial controls.

The Interim CFO will also assess existing financial systems, identify opportunities for better integration, and develop more efficient accounting and reporting workflows.

Beyond immediate financial improvements, this individual will partner closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to strengthen forecasting, support organizational initiatives, and guide long-term financial strategy.

The initial engagement is expected to last 3–6 months, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent CFO position based on organizational needs and mutual fit.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Assessment & Stabilization

• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of existing financial operations, accounting practices, and reporting procedures.
• Review historical financial records to identify discrepancies, inaccuracies, and areas requiring corrective action.
• Evaluate the reliability of current financial statements and establish processes to improve reporting accuracy.
• Identify financial risks, operational inefficiencies, and opportunities for immediate improvement.
• Strengthen internal controls, financial accountability, and overall financial transparency.

Billing, Collections & Revenue Management

• Assess existing billing, collections, and revenue management processes.
• Identify inefficiencies, revenue leakage, and opportunities to improve cash flow.
• Implement process improvements that support timely collections and accurate financial reporting.
• Collaborate with relevant departments to strengthen financial workflows and accountability.
• Establish sustainable processes for monitoring revenue performance and financial outcomes.

Financial Systems & Process Improvement

• Evaluate the organization's existing financial systems and software environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve system integration, reporting capabilities, and data accuracy.
• Recommend practical solutions to streamline accounting processes and reduce manual inefficiencies.
• Develop and standardize financial procedures, internal controls, and reporting workflows.
• Implement improvements that support long-term financial stability and operational efficiency.

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and short- and long-term financial planning.
• Develop financial models and projections to support organizational changes, strategic initiatives, and operational decisions.
• Partner closely with the CEO to evaluate financial performance and organizational priorities.
• Provide the Board of Directors with accurate financial reporting, strategic recommendations, and actionable insights.
• Identify opportunities for cost optimization, improved financial performance, and sustainable growth.
• Support executive leadership in evaluating new initiatives and financial opportunities.

Team Leadership & Executive Collaboration

• Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to a small finance and accounting team.
• Establish clear expectations, accountability, and consistent financial processes.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial operations with organizational objectives.
• Balance high-level strategic responsibilities with hands-on involvement in accounting and financial operations.
• Support the development of a reliable, efficient, and sustainable finance function.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic financial leadership and oversee accounting operations.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Experience evaluating financial accuracy, identifying discrepancies, and implementing corrective actions.
• Knowledge of billing, collections, revenue management, and financial process improvement.
• Ability to assess financial systems and recommend operational improvements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial decision-making skills.
• Experience leading and supporting finance teams while remaining actively involved in financial operations.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to collaborate with executive leadership and a Board of Directors.
• Ability to quickly assess organizational financial challenges and implement practical solutions.
• Availability to travel to Northern Arizona approximately 1–2 days per week .
• Availability for an initial 3–6 month interim contract , with openness to potential permanent placement.

Preferred Qualifications

• 7–10 years of progressive finance or accounting experience.
• Previous experience in a CFO, Interim CFO, Finance Director, or comparable senior financial leadership role.
• Experience working within healthcare, nonprofit organizations, or similarly complex financial environments.
• Background in financial restructuring, operational improvement, or financial transformation.
• Experience improving billing, collections, and revenue cycle processes.
• CPA certification or MBA preferred, but not required.
