Job Description and Duties

The LRB has an exciting leadership opportunity for a dynamic professional with excellent attention to State of California – Department of Fish and Wildlife detail and communication skills.

Under general direction of the License and Revenue Branch (LRB) Supervisor II (Assistant Branch Chief), the incumbent serves as a Program Manager and is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the Sport Fishing and Special Permits Unit (SFSPU). The incumbent directly supervises a technical staff support position responsible for permit issuance and customer service, and two professional analysts with responsibilities for administering a variety of sport fishing license, permit, and associated entitlement programs as well as numerous special permit programs. This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Working Conditions

Requires the use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse for several hours a day. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Occasional day and/or overnight travel up to 5% may be required via private or public transportation (e.g., automobile, bus, airplane, etc.) to participate in training and meetings.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Proficient in the use of various software products/applications, including database, website management, and other business information system solutions.
• Experience in performing lead, co-lead, and/or project management for a project, assignment, or lead analyst duties.
• Experience developing, interpreting, and/or applying laws, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Experience working in and/or administering multiple programs, subject matter, or projects concurrently.
