UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Animal Medicine / Attending Veterinarian (Director/AV) . UMass Chan seeks a collaborative, strategic, and innovative laboratory animal medicine leader to advance a highly respected animal care and use program that is integral to its nationally recognized biomedical research enterprise. The Director/AV will provide institutional leadership for the Department of Animal Medicine and serve as the attending veterinarian for UMass Chan’s animal care and use program. Working closely with research leadership, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), investigators, veterinarians, animal care professionals, and compliance partners, the Director/AV will oversee veterinary medicine, animal welfare, husbandry, training, clinical operations, and facilities management across UMass Chan’s research environment. This leader will ensure compliance with AAALAC accreditation standards, USDA regulations, and institutional policies while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will be an accomplished veterinarian and laboratory animal medicine leader with the credibility, judgment, and interpersonal skills to support high-quality research while maintaining an unwavering commitment to responsible animal care and use. Candidates must hold a DVM or VMD degree, be ACLAM board certified (or hold a diplomate credential in a closely related discipline), and be eligible for veterinary licensure in Massachusetts.
