Quality Inspector II Final Inspection

The Quality Inspector II Final Inspection performs final quality approval on welded and fabricated metal components prior to shipment. This role inspects parts across Water/Well, Architectural, and Gas product lines to ensure all dimensional, structural, and visual requirements are met before release. As the final line of quality assurance, this position carries direct responsibility for identifying nonconformances and preventing defects from reaching customers.

Responsibilities

• Perform final inspection of welded and fabricated metal parts prior to shipment across Water/Well, Architectural, and Gas product categories.
• Inspect MIG and TIG welds for quality, integrity, and conformance to specifications and applicable standards.
• Verify dimensional accuracy using micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools.
• Confirm compliance to tolerances ranging from 0.001" to ", depending on product type and application.
• Identify, document, and disposition nonconformances in accordance with established quality procedures.
• Enter inspection results and final acceptance data into the 1factory Quality Manufacturing Operations Platform.
• Act as the gatekeeper for outgoing product quality by making final accept/reject decisions and escalating issues when needed.
• Maintain strong weld quality awareness, including the ability to recognize a healthy TIG weld based on coloration and appearance.
• Adjust inspection focus based on product type, emphasizing visual quality, appearance, and finish for Architectural products.
• Prioritize structural integrity, weld soundness, and functional performance for Water/Well and Gas products.
• Train on and adopt new state-of-the-art inspection tools, including Gelsite, to improve final nonconformance detection.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies related to inspection and quality control and proposing practical improvements.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing final inspection in a metal fabrication or welding environment.
• Strong proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and tape measures.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Understanding of weld quality standards, common weld defects, and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to evaluate MIG and TIG welds for quality, integrity, and conformance to specifications.
• High attention to detail with the confidence to reject parts that do not meet final quality standards.
• Ability to work independently on 2nd shift (MondayThursday, 5:00 PM 3:00 AM).
• Comfort working in a metal fabrication shop environment that can be loud and somewhat dirty while maintaining high quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Strong understanding of weld symbols and advanced blueprint interpretation.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, which is recognized with a significant pay increase.
• Interest in learning and using advanced inspection technologies such as Gelsite and digital Quality Manufacturing Operations Platforms.
• Motivation to pursue further education or certifications in related fields such as engineering or welding inspection, supported by the organization.

Work Environment

This role is based in a shop environment that can be loud and somewhat dirty, consistent with metal fabrication and welding operations. Inspectors work closely with leadership, who remain actively involved on the floor, reflecting a flat organizational structure within the manufacturing site. The position follows a 2nd shift schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM. The work involves regular use of precision measuring instruments, inspection tools, and digital platforms such as the 1factory Quality Manufacturing Operations Platform, as well as the adoption of advanced inspection technologies like Gelsite as they are introduced.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $32.00/hr.
