Abstractor

Facility: CoxHealth South – 3801 S National Ave, Springfield, MO 65807. Department: Health Information Management. Hours: 40 per week, 8:00AM – 4:30PM, Day Shift (United States). Job Description Review inpatient/outpatient medical records. Abstract required data into the Cerner Abstracting system before or after coding as required. Perform pre‑abstracting or post‑abstracting based on the assigned role. Ensure discharge disposition is accurate. Verify inpatient admission order is present. Gather additional information needed prior to finalizing the abstract, working with Coding and Audit/Compliance as required. May be assigned additional tasks as needed. Education Required: High School Diploma. Experience Required: Prior HIM experience working with analysis, coding support or document imaging. Preferred: Completion of a coding course. Skills Visual acuity necessary to read and decipher handwriting and electronic documentation. Proficiency with computers and various computer programs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and concepts effectively. Analytical ability to interpret data contained in medical records and assign appropriate codes for accurate reimbursement. Understanding of ICD‑10‑PCS and ICD‑10‑CM classification systems. Licensure/Certification/Registration Preferred: AHIMA coding credential (CCS) or AAPC coding credential (COC or CPC).
