Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse will also float between PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needed. Strong clinical skills and effective communication are essential, with a focus on delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced pediatric environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU.
• Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and develop treatment plans.
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams for comprehensive patient care.
• Float between PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and NICU units as required.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with hospital policies.
• Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies within the critical care setting.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 1 year of PICU nursing experience.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity pediatric intensive care environment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in Pediatric Medical/Surgical and NICU nursing.
• Additional pediatric nursing certifications or training.

Special Considerations:

• No on-call requirement.
• Expected nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in the PICU.
• Floating between PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and NICU units is required.
• Hospital is a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with specialized pediatric care environment.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Self-scheduling is utilized, allowing for consecutive or split shifts.
• Weekend work is required on a variable basis.
• Block scheduling is not required.
