Brief Job Description The Risk Management Specialist IV reports to the Manager of Security and Risk Management and implements and administers the risk management and safety program for the Health and Human Services agencies. The role focuses on loss prevention, reduction, and control through continuous development and implementation of risk management priorities. Key Responsibilities Establish risk management priorities and goals and evaluate loss and exposure information. Conduct risk management and safety reviews and on‑site inspections to identify hazards and risk exposures. Provide training for agency staff and support the Workers’ Compensation Specialist, Continuity Coordinator, and Emergency Management Coordinator. Review files, reports, and programs for compliance with state and federal statutes and guidelines. Coordinate loss information for mandated risk management reports to the State Office of Risk Management (SORM). Supervise a comprehensive safety program, including ergonomics. Prepare technical reports, plans, and procedures for risk management programs. Identify improvement areas and make recommendations. Essential Job Functions (Percentage of Time) Lead development and implementation of the HHS risk management plan (35%). Conduct reviews, inspections, and training (20%). Supervise and monitor safety program including ergonomics (20%). Prepare reports, plans, and procedures (20%). Identify improvements and recommend solutions (5%). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of risk management, training, presentation techniques, workers’ compensation, and safety program management. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards relevant to risk management and safety. Skill in establishing procedures, monitoring processes, and using computer software. Ability to establish goals, develop and communicate policies, evaluate effectiveness, prioritize projects, and form effective working relationships. Registrations, Licensure or Certifications Preferred: Certification in risk management, insurance, safety management, or a related area. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from a four‑year college or university with coursework in a related field. Two or more years of experience in risk management or safety administration programs, or equivalent progressive experience for a four‑year degree.
