About the Role:

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various behavioral health settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during episodes of emotional or behavioral distress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate and thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care and discharge planning. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification preferred.
• Experience in mental health or behavioral health settings, including direct patient care.
• Knowledge of clinical documentation standards and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Basic understanding of crisis management and intervention techniques.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Certification in Crisis Intervention or Mental Health First Aid.
• Experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED).
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills tailored to diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in conducting clinical assessments and monitoring patient behavior to inform treatment plans.
• Provide direct patient care, including support with daily living activities and therapeutic interventions.
• Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage and de-escalate behavioral emergencies effectively.
• Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and discharge plans.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized treatment and discharge plans.
• Support patients with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) by applying specialized care strategies.
• Ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients by adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring continuity of care and legal compliance in daily operations. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are applied regularly to respond promptly and effectively to behavioral emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety. Clinical assessments and mental health knowledge enable the technician to monitor patient progress and contribute valuable insights to treatment planning. Skills in discharge planning support smooth transitions for patients returning to community settings or other care levels. Overall, these skills facilitate compassionate patient care, effective teamwork, and adherence to clinical protocols in a dynamic behavioral health environment.
