Information Technology Specialist

Join AMX's IT team as the on-site IT Specialist (Level 1) for our Atlanta office. You will be the first point of contact for users in Atlanta and a remote resource for our Savannah, Ashford and Dothan locations, resolving hardware, software, account and network issues and keeping the office's network, conference rooms and end-user equipment running reliably. This role goes beyond the desktop. You will own the Atlanta office network day to day, including switches, wireless, firewall and VPN connectivity to our other sites and cloud services, and you will work with our IT leadership and managed service partner on changes, monitoring alerts and projects. Most of what you resolve is closed the same day, and a proactive approach, clear communication and disciplined documentation are what make that possible. Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, Azure Virtual Desktop with Wyse thin clients, McLeod transportation management software, RingCentral phones and call queues, Cisco Meraki networking, Microsoft Teams Rooms conference systems, and a ConnectWise ticketing and remote-monitoring platform. You will also support the third-party portals our operations teams use daily. Duties Help desk and end-user support Technical troubleshooting. Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, account and connectivity issues quickly, and recognise when recurring problems mean an asset needs repair, replacement or retirement. Session and account support. Clear hung virtual desktop sessions, reset passwords and unlock accounts, and process access, distribution-list and onboarding/offboarding requests in line with our SOP. Documentation. Keep accurate, current records of every ticket, resolution and asset lifecycle event (purchase, warranty, assignment, disposal) so the environment is fully auditable. Asset tracking. Maintain a clear picture of what hardware and software exists, who it is assigned to and its status, reducing shadow IT and untracked devices. Communication and user empathy. Translate technical issues into plain language, set expectations on resolution time, and follow up before users have to ask. Process and SOP adherence. Follow established procedures for ticket handling, asset check-in and check-out, onboarding and offboarding equipment, and software licensing. Hardware planning and recommendations. Assess business requirements and recommend laptops, thin clients, monitors, docking stations, printers, peripherals, conference room equipment and other endpoint technologies. Partner with IT leadership and approved vendors on purchasing decisions, warranty management, refresh cycles and lifecycle planning Executive and VIP support. Provide responsive, professional support for executives and leadership staff, demonstrating discretion, urgency and exceptional customer service when handling technology issues. Network and infrastructure support Office network operations. Own day-to-day operation of the Atlanta LAN and wireless: switch port configuration, VLAN assignments, access point placement and health, DHCP and DNS issues, and structured cabling and patch-panel changes. Firewall and VPN. Maintain firewall rules and client VPN access for remote users, and troubleshoot site-to-site connectivity between Atlanta, our other offices and cloud services. Monitoring and alerts. Respond to network, sensor and device alerts from our monitoring platform, distinguish real faults from noise, and tune thresholds so alerts stay meaningful. Conference room and AV. Support Microsoft Teams Rooms systems, room booking and in-room equipment so meetings start with one touch. Carrier and vendor escalation. Work with internet providers, our managed service partner and hardware vendors to resolve outages and warranty issues, and keep users informed throughout. Network documentation. Keep network diagrams, IP address plans, device inventories and configuration backups current, and record every change. Security hygiene. Apply firmware and patch updates on schedule, enforce network access standards, and flag suspicious activity or configuration drift to IT leadership. Office technology ownership. Act as the primary onsite IT resource for the Atlanta office, ensuring a reliable, consistent technology experience for employees while coordinating with centralized support, infrastructure, security and network teams. Office growth and technology projects. Assist with office expansions, workstation deployments, conference room buildouts, equipment moves and technology improvement initiatives as business needs evolve. Skills and qualifications Required Two or more years in a help desk, desktop support or junior network role. Strong troubleshooting of Windows hardware failures and software malfunctions, including thin-client and virtual desktop environments. Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, wireless standards, and reading a network diagram. Hands-on experience with managed switches, wireless access points and firewalls, including basic configuration and troubleshooting. Experience with Cisco Meraki is a strong plus. Experience configuring and supporting client VPN and site-to-site VPN connections. Understanding of network security practices: firewall rules, network segmentation, secure remote access and multi-factor authentication. Experience with Microsoft 365 administration basics: user and group management, Exchange mailboxes and distribution lists, Teams. Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems for incident tracking and resolution documentation. Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users, with strong customer-service instincts. Ability to work independently as the primary onsite IT resource while effectively collaborating with remote teammates, vendors, and managed service providers. Experience evaluating, deploying, and supporting end-user hardware, including laptops, desktops, monitors, docking stations, printers, and conference room technology. Preferred CompTIA Network+ or A+, or equivalent experience. CCNA or Meraki certification is a plus. Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop or another virtual desktop platform, and with RingCentral or similar cloud phone systems. Experience with remote monitoring and management tools and with ConnectWise. Basic Windows Server administration: Active Directory or Entra ID, group policy, file shares. Exposure to the transportation or logistics industry. Physical and schedule requirements In person at the Atlanta office. Occasional travel to other AMX locations for projects or equipment deployment.
