School Bus Driver

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of vehicle handling and safety techniques
• Good knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules, regulations and of local street and road systems
• Some knowledge of basic first aid, including CPR
• Ability to safely drive a school vehicle
• Ability to read, write and complete forms and reports
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents and school officials
• Ability to maintain effective control over groups of children or young adult students, and to ensure student behavior is not distractive to safe driving
• Patience with students who may become disruptive
• Good human relation and communication skills

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Requirements

Completion of high school education or the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) supplemented by a valid Commercial Drivers License with Passenger and School Bus Driver endorsement; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted licensure, knowledge, skill and ability.

License/Certification

Commercial Drivers License with Passenger and School Bus Driver endorsement and a good driving record
