Position Description
The Development Manager is a key member of the operations team that serves an important role in fulfilling Glacier Peak Institute’s mission through strategic development and donor engagement. This position helps to grow the organization and expand capacity by building relationships with prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors, and by engaging and connecting with our supporters.
Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate relationships with current donors and partners, and build connections with new donors and prospective supporters.
- Maintain a portfolio of qualified donors, seek opportunities for gifts of assets and non-cash gifts, and make direct asks to meet funding needs.
- Engage with supporters and keep them up to date with ongoing activities through social media, email, newsletters, and website content.
- Be a storyteller sharing the unique experiences of program participants with supporters and connecting with donor interests in a compelling way.
- Work with staff and Board of Directors to align multi-year development strategy with organizational goals and needs.
- Build a development calendar to plan for fundraising activities and focused messaging throughout the year.
- Create opportunities for supporters to engage with GPI through volunteer activities, programs, and community events.
- Lead the Development Committee, and support Board and volunteer participation in development and fundraising events.
- Work with staff to identify grant opportunities and submit proposals or applications.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and event planning, having met or exceeded planned fundraising targets.
- Demonstrated success in developing grant proposals and securing grant funding.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience in asking for and closing gifts and/or sponsorships of $15,000 or more.
- Experience with a constituent management platform (Little Green Light preferred).
- A passion for the outdoors and youth education.
