Scrub Technician

Reports to the Perioperative Coordinator and DON. The LPN/Scrub Technician works along side the surgeon and surgical staff. They would act as surgical staff member to assist surgeons and nurses in providing care for our patients while following the guidelines set by AORN.

Position Summary:

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: High school graduate or GED equivalent

B. Education: Certification from an accredited Scrub Technician program

C. Experience: One (1) year previous experience in Scrub Technician preferred

D. Special qualifications: BLS health care provider. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.

Degree of Supervision Required:

Involves general guidance and direction by Registered Nurses and Director of Nursing Services. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

Birth - 1 Year - Infant

2-12 Year - Pediatric

13-18 Years - Adolescent

19-69 Years - Adult

70 + - Geriatric

Physical Requirements:

Constant: sitting, seeing, hearing, and finger dexterity. Constant concentration in fine details with frequent interruptions. Occasional: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, using arm, leg and back muscles may be required. May be expected to lift more than 25 pounds. Manage stress appropriately, handle multiple priorities. Make decisions under stress. Work along and manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately.

Personal Protective Equipment:

The position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various task/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to gloves, masks and safety glasses.
