Worley

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts headquartered in Australia. Right now, we're bridging two worlds as we accelerate to more sustainable energy sources, while helping our customers provide the energy, chemicals and resources that society needs now. We partner with our customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their portfolio of assets. We solve complex problems by finding integrated data-centric solutions from the first stages of consulting and engineering to installation and commissioning, to the last stages of decommissioning and remediation. Join us and help drive innovation and sustainability in our projects.

At this time, we are only considering candidates who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders).

Worley is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Nuclear team, supporting the delivery of complex industrial projects. In this role, you will contribute to the design and execution of mechanical systems across the full project lifecycle, from early concept development through detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, high-quality solutions that align with project objectives, client requirements, and industry standards. This position offers the opportunity to take on technical leadership responsibilities, support project delivery, and contribute to a collaborative and safety-focused engineering environment.

Deliver mechanical engineering and design work in alignment with project quality, cost, and schedule objectives. Support safe design practices and contribute to a culture of safety across all project activities. Ensure designs align with client specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards. Serve as Project Discipline Lead on small to medium-sized projects, as assigned. Provide guidance and oversight to team members to support delivery of high-quality engineering outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project oversight as Project Discipline Lead, integrating design activities in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Lead or support a mechanical discipline team, including engineers and designers, to deliver project objectives.
  • Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet company, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the planning and execution of mechanical engineering work, including participating in project meetings, preparing progress updates, and following established review procedures.
  • Help ensure project scope is clearly defined and that changes are managed in accordance with project processes.
  • Contribute to procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, such as preparing requisitions, supporting technical bid evaluations, and reviewing vendor documentation.
  • Serve as Mechanical Lead on projects, when assigned.

Team Coordination

  • Outline project requirements, actively promote workshare where appropriate, assign tasks, and supervise progress.
  • Ensure that required services meet Worley, client, and applicable regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address and resolve technical questions or discrepancies.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant developments and innovations in mechanical engineering.
  • Provide guidance and knowledge sharing within the mechanical engineering team.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, project stakeholders, and clients.
  • Identify challenges, contribute to solutions, and seek input when appropriate.

Technical and Industry Experience

  • Experience supporting projects in nuclear, refining, chemical, or petrochemical facilities, or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience contributing to multiple phases of engineering projects, from early concept through detailed design, including work on nuclear systems or facilities.
  • Strong technical and practical mechanical engineering skills, with the ability to deliver accurate and timely work.
  • Understanding of core mechanical engineering principles and general awareness of related engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including nuclear-specific standards where applicable.
  • Experience using mechanical engineering design tools and general business software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and project environments.

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related engineering field) with 8 or more years of relevant professional experience, including experience in the nuclear sector.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the US with the ability to obtain licensure in West Virginia.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to work in or relocate to the Charleston, West Virginia area.
