HVAC Mechanic IThe HVAC Mechanic I is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems across the university campus. This position ensures that all climate control systems operate efficiently and comply with safety and environmental regulations. Also monitors and adjusts building automation systems (BAS) to optimize energy efficiency. Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalentAt least four years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repairEPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants (Type I, II, or Universal)Valid driver's license requiredPreferred Qualifications:Class B HVAC LicenseTechnical certification or associate degree in HVAC technology, mechanical systems, or a related field preferredAdditional HVAC certifications (e.g., NATE, Class A HVAC License)Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers and fume hoodsDiagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, leaks, and inefficienciesPerform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipmentReplace filters, belts, motors, and other system components as neededCalibrate thermostats, sensors, and control systems to ensure optimal performanceEnsure compliance with EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling and disposalMaintain records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activitiesFollow university safety protocols and OSHA guidelines when handling equipment and hazardous materialsRespond promptly to HVAC-related service requests and emergency callsWork closely with other maintenance personnel, electricians, and plumbers to ensure seamless facility operationsProvide technical guidance and support to junior staff or apprenticesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manualsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined spacesKnowledge of CMMS/Work Order system usage, mobile technologyBasic understanding of Microsoft Office Programs including email and spreadsheetsSalary Information:Commensurate with education and experienceRequired Documents to Apply:ResumeOptional Documents:License or Certificate (see special instructions for submission instructions), Proof of Veteran StatusRecruitment Contact Information:Troy Vela, Strategic Talent Acquisition Specialist, View email address on click.appcast.io application materials must be uploaded to the University of Arkansas System Career Site do not send to listed recruitment contact.Special Instructions to Applicants:Pre-employment Screening Requirements:Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Reports Check, Sex Offender Registry, Substance Abuse TestingThe University of Arkansas is committed to providing a safe campus community.
