Sr. (Lead) DevOps Engineer

NYC – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote per week

12+ month contract

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot to design and develop scalable, high-performance APIs and microservices. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in eCommerce platforms, cloud technologies (AWS, Azure), and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build innovative backend solutions that drive business growth and enhance customer experiences while leveraging Grafana for performance monitoring and observability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs and microservices using Kotlin and Java in a Spring Boot environment.
• Architect and optimize eCommerce solutions, including inventory, sales, and order management systems.
• Implement event-driven architectures using Kafka and RabbitMQ for real-time data processing.
• Deploy and manage cloud-based applications using AWS and Microsoft Azure, ensuring high availability and scalability.
• Utilize Docker and Kubernetes for containerized deployments and orchestration.
• Leverage Grafana to monitor system performance, track key metrics, and optimize application reliability.
• Follow TDD and Agile methodologies to write maintainable, high-quality code with thorough unit and integration testing.
• Optimize database interactions using PostgreSQL, MySQL, JPA, and Kotlin-Exposed for efficient data management.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless end-to-end solutions.
• Lead and mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of innovation and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot.
• Strong expertise in RESTful API design, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Experience in eCommerce platforms or large-scale transaction processing systems.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ, and other real-time messaging solutions.
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, and cloud-native deployments.
• Deep understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM frameworks.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure DevOps, AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), and cloud security best practices.
• Hands-on experience using Grafana for system monitoring, observability, and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Excellent communication skills and experience working in Agile development teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Micronaut, Quarkus, or other lightweight JVM frameworks.
• Familiarity with ArgoCD, Terraform, or infrastructure-as-code practices.

Background in high-volume transactional systems, fintech, or enterprise-scale applications.
