Certified Medical Assistant 1 - UHealth SoLé Mia

Position Title Medical Assistant 1 Overview The University of Miami UHealth – UMHC/SCCC at SoLé Mia will open September 2025 in North Miami, Aventura, and surrounding communities. The role supports a multidisciplinary team that includes the NCI–designated Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Desai Sethi Urology Institute, and neurology and neurosurgery programs. Responsibilities Caring Science The Medical Assistant provides overall care with loving kindness, supporting patients’ individual needs and respecting their spiritual beliefs. The MA encourages honest communication, creates a safe environment for healing, builds trust, and offers emotional support. Organization and Work Role Functions The MA prioritizes and integrates multiple tasks, communicates clearly with patients, families, and team members, seeks assistance when needed, and participates in unit/clinic meetings to foster positive morale. The MA uses technology for documentation, ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines, and meets the communication needs of patients with limited English proficiency. Professional Practice The MA performs tasks within their clinical scope of practice, incorporates protocols and standards of care, and accepts constructive feedback to maintain growth and confidence. Core Duties and Qualifications Abides by ethical behavior, therapeutic communication, and protects patient privacy. Demonstrates knowledge of basic medical terminology. Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing examination rooms, instruments, and materials. Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis and provides patients basic instructions before examination. Performs routine laboratory tests and collects vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and documents results. Observes and reports changes in patient signs or symptoms. Administers medication safely as directed by the physician and assists in patient care activities such as walking. Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations. Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments following sterile technique principles. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work. Provides patients with the provider’s care instructions and information. Maintains accurate patient records and performs clerical duties, orders, stocks, and inventories supplies. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets. The designee in charge assigns specific functions; the physician reviews and signs off on all competencies and evaluations. Important Note: Medical Assistants working in hospital-based units will not perform any type of medication administration. Core Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). (If currently holds an active MA certification, school verification may apply.) Certification and Licensing Approved MA Certifications: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA. Additional Certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS); HIV & AIDS Certification (Florida). Experience No previous experience required.
