Mechanical Engineer Job Description Join a dynamic team and take ownership of the design and engineering lifecycle of complex mechanical assemblies, systems, and specialized tooling for large-format robotic 3D printing construction equipment. Responsibilities + Own the design and engineering lifecycle of complex mechanical assemblies, systems, and specialized tooling. + Perform detailed engineering analyses using foundational hand calculations and advanced computational modeling (FEA/CFD). + Generate comprehensive engineering documentation, including 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings per ASME Y14.5 standards. + Lead cross-functional design reviews, incorporating feedback from various teams. + Drive the selection and qualification of COTS components, materials, and fabrication methods to optimize designs. + Collaborate with other engineers to develop effective designs meeting functional and performance requirements. + Work closely with Prototype Technicians and Manufacturing teams to troubleshoot assembly issues. + Develop and execute rigorous verification and validation plans to ensure designs meet all requirements. + Identify risks and drive mitigation strategies using tools like FMEA. + Provide hands-on support for field deployment and root cause analysis of mechanical failures. + Manage and control engineering documentation within the PDM/PLM system. + Review and check drawings created by other team members for accuracy and completeness. + Perform other related duties as assigned to support the company's goals and objectives. Essential Skills + Proficiency in SolidWorks and mechanical design. + Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field, or equivalent experience. + Experience in hands-on mechanical design or product development roles. + Experience with robotics, automation, heavy equipment, or large machinery. + Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T). + Knowledge of FEA and thermal analysis. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience designing, integrating, and troubleshooting fluid/hydraulic systems. + Experience designing hardware for harsh outdoor environments. + Experience with FEA is a plus. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
