Mechanic / Shop Technician

The shop technician plays a key role in troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing automotive, electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical petroleum equipment and related products. In this role, you primarily assemble and disassemble pumps while supporting the maintenance and performance of fueling systems. You ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently by performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance, and by installing, programming, and testing new equipment.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot issues with automotive, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, and petroleum equipment to identify root causes and determine appropriate repair solutions.
• Assemble and disassemble pumps and related components with attention to detail and adherence to technical specifications.
• Perform repairs on fueling systems and associated equipment to restore proper function and reliability.
• Complete preventative maintenance on fueling systems and shop equipment to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Monitor parts inventory levels, track usage, and maintain accurate records using basic math to ensure correct counts and availability.
• Install new equipment, including setting up, programming, and testing systems to confirm correct operation and compliance with requirements.
• Use hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively to carry out daily tasks and repairs.
• Communicate clearly with team members, explaining technical issues and repair steps, and request support when needed.
• Follow shop procedures and safety guidelines while working on facility equipment used by high-profile customers.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations and a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of previous experience working or training in the mechanical or electrical industry.
• At least 6 months of experience operating mechanical equipment and machines, or performing farm labor or mechanic work.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues in pumps, fueling systems, and related equipment.
• Hands-on experience with pump repair, including disassembly, inspection, and reassembly.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with repair processes for automotive, hydraulic, and petroleum-related equipment.
• Proficient use of hand tools and shop tools in a safe and effective manner.
• Basic math skills to accurately monitor, track, and reconcile parts inventory.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to team members and supervisors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a small shop or similar environment where collaboration and flexibility are important.
• Exposure to fueling systems or petroleum equipment maintenance and repair.
• Comfort working with both mechanical and electronic components in equipment.
• Ability to follow written instructions, technical manuals, and shop procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality workmanship.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and equipment programming procedures.

Work Environment

You work in a small, air-conditioned shop that provides a comfortable and controlled environment for hands-on mechanical and technical tasks. Standard shop hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break, offering a stable daytime schedule. The work focuses on facility equipment that is sold to leading technology-focused customers, giving exposure to high-quality, advanced equipment. You regularly use hand tools and mechanical equipment while following shop safety practices in a clean, organized workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lafayette, LA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
