Kids Squad Counselor - Before Care

Job Summary: The Kids Squad Counselor is responsible for daily implementation of the program, assisting in scheduling activities and supervising participants at the Athletic Recreation Center (ARC) in Woodridge, IL. Shift time is 2:45pm‒6:00pm, weekdays only. Hourly wage is $16.75. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work directly with children in group activities and one‑on‑one sessions. Ensure the safety of participants at all times and monitor health conditions. Use appropriate discipline and language with program participants. Develop a thorough understanding of the Park District’s policies and enforce them positively. Greet children and parents warmly and help shy children find an area of interest. Assist with safety checks, daily activities, set‑up, cleanup, and equipment maintenance. Maintain supplies in an orderly fashion in appropriate storage closets. Communicate concerns or problems to a supervisor and maintain accurate timekeeping records. Motivate children while being fair and consistent; have individual conversations with children during class. Lead participants in small groups and remain aware of the entire group during play. Facilitate positive team dynamics, attend staff meetings and workshops, and maintain an enthusiastic attitude. Identify and respond quickly to emergency situations, following district policies. Customer Service Monitor participants’ health and be prepared to handle emergency health issues. Implement special sanitation procedures when illnesses occur. Initiative Take independent action, seek new responsibilities, generate ideas, and practice self‐development. Co‐operation & Attitude Present a good personal appearance and wear the proper uniform. Attend all staff meetings and workshops. Maintain an enthusiastic and positive attitude while motivating others. Judgment Recognize problems, evaluate facts, and reach sound conclusions. Know when to lead participants and when to step back. Communication Communicate concerns or problems to a supervisor; use appropriate time‑keeping methods. Speak effectively before groups of participants or employees. Leadership Lead participants at assigned site in small groups while remaining aware of the entire group. Qualifications Minimum 16 years of age. Minimum 1 year of prior experience working with children aged 5 to 6th grade, preferred. Ability to interact positively with parents, participants, and staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions. Ability to identify and respond quickly to emergency situations. Education & Training Not applicable. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations First‐aid certification (preferred). Adult CPR/AED certification (preferred). Infant/child CPR/AED certification (preferred). Valid Illinois driver’s license.
