Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantec is seeking a Wildlife Biologist to join our team of environmental professionals. This position would preferably be based in our Kansas City (Overland Park), Kansas office. Our Natural Resources team spends much of the growing season in the field completing avian and wildlife surveys/monitoring, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, evaluating potential restoration sites, soil surveys, vegetation surveys, as well as office duties including, but not limited to, data analysis, reporting, restoration plans and permit application development. On a day-to-day basis, our team members also create databases and analyze field data, conduct literature research, and write environmental documents, including but not limited to: environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, biological assessments for threatened and endangered species, habitat conservation plans, permit applications and other technical reports. The team also evaluates data and creates maps using ArcGIS, coordinates with local, state, and federal agencies, and communicates with our clients. Our variety of projects and clients is what keeps our work interesting and fulfilling, while being dedicated to serving our clients and our communities.Your Key ResponsibilitiesWildlife surveysHabitat assessmentsEnvironmental permit applicationsEndangered resource record reviewsGPS data collection and mappingWetland and stream delineation and assessmentsPrepare and assist with written technical reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, applications, and maps for client and regulatory agency reviewWork will be conducted under the supervision of a project managerOrganize and direct field teams for a wide variety of clients and project typesWillingness to travel and conduct field work for extended periods, including overnight travel, is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.Development of work plans, schedules and budgets for proposalsData collection and analysisTechnical report writing including environmental review documentsArcGIS-online mapping and analysisProvide quality assurance/quality control of project deliverablesThis position may require up to 60% travel for project workYour Capabilities and CredentialsExperience in leading and performing field sampling techniques and using scientific equipment such as hand-held GPS units, data entry devices (tablets, iPads, etc.), soil augers, binoculars, other sampling equipmentAdvanced technical writing skills sufficient to draft professional plans, technical reports, correspondence, permit applications, etc.Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlinesAbility to effectively communicate project status to project manager and appropriate staffAbility to pass drug test, background check, physical, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policyThe ability to work independentlyMust be an advocate for the Company’s and client’s health and safety programs.
