Mentor TrainerAbout POWERPOWER is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping women reclaim their lives from addiction. We provide trauma-informed treatment and recovery support services for women with substance use and co-occurring disorders, fostering a safe, supportive environment where women can heal, grow, and build lasting recovery. Why This Role MattersThe Mentor Trainer plays a vital leadership role within POWER's community-based recovery support services. This position combines direct peer mentoring with staff development responsibilities, helping to ensure that individuals impacted by substance use disorders receive high-quality, person-centered recovery support. Drawing upon lived experience and recovery expertise, the Mentor Trainer models best practices, develops mentor staff, and empowers participants to build recovery capital, strengthen natural supports, and achieve long-term wellness and recovery success.What You'll DoMentor Training & DevelopmentTrain newly hired Mentors on mentoring principles, recovery support services, professional boundaries, ethics, and engagement strategies.Facilitate Mentor onboarding, shadowing experiences, and competency development activities.Coach and support Mentors requiring additional skill development or performance improvement.Model effective mentoring practices and community engagement techniques.Assist with planning and facilitating Mentor meetings, trainings, case consultations, and professional development activities.Provide feedback and recommendations to the POWER Connection Supervisor regarding staff performance, training needs, and mentoring best practices.Support implementation of trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and culturally responsive practices across the Mentor team.Community-Based Recovery SupportMaintain a caseload of approximately 20-30 participants engaged in community-based recovery support services.Conduct outreach and assertive engagement activities in homes, community settings, healthcare facilities, correctional environments, and other approved locations.Build trusting, recovery-focused relationships with participants through consistent support and encouragement.Share lived recovery experience appropriately to inspire hope and demonstrate recovery is possible.Assist participants in identifying strengths, overcoming barriers, and establishing meaningful recovery goals.Support participants in developing recovery capital and natural support networks.Encourage personal responsibility and self-advocacy while promoting participant choice and self- determination.Recovery Planning & Resource NavigationComplete strengths-based assessments and collaborate with participants to develop individualized Recovery Plans.Monitor progress toward goals and regularly review recovery plans in accordance with agency requirements.Connect participants with community resources including housing, employment, education, transportation, healthcare, childcare, legal assistance, and social supports.Assist participants in navigating behavioral health, medical, social service, family-serving, and criminal justice systems.Educate participants on recovery support options and community resources.Support participants in accessing and maintaining engagement in substance use treatment, mental health services, and other appropriate supports.Promote utilization of natural community resources and peer support networks.Recovery Coaching & Wellness SupportUtilize Motivational Interviewing and recovery coaching techniques to increase motivation and engagement.Support participants in developing healthy coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and recovery management practices.Encourage whole-person wellness, including physical health, behavioral health, and social well-being.Collaborate with healthcare providers, treatment professionals, and community partners to support participant goals.Provide education regarding mutual aid and recovery support groups, including 12-Step, faith-based, and other recovery pathways.Support participants utilizing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and other evidence-based recovery approaches.Documentation & Program OperationsComplete all required documentation accurately, professionally, and within established timeframes.Maintain participant records in compliance with confidentiality requirements and agency policies.Participate in team meetings, case consultations, supervision, and program improvement activities.Assist with community outreach, recruitment, and engagement efforts.Participate in ongoing professional development and required trainings.Collect and report outcomes data as required by program standards and funding sources.What You BringRequiredHigh school diploma or GED.Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated recovery from a substance use disorder.Willingness to appropriately share personal recovery experiences in support of participants' recovery journeys.Minimum of one (1) year of successful peer mentoring, recovery support, or related behavioral health experience.Experience working with individuals involved in substance use treatment, recovery support, behavioral health, child welfare, criminal justice, or related systems.Understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care (ROSC) principles and peer support practices.Knowledge of trauma-informed care and person-centered service delivery.Ability to engage and motivate individuals across various stages of change and recovery readiness.Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentoring, and facilitation skills.Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently in community-based settings while maintaining accountability and professionalism.Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and basic computer applications.Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.Current automobile insurance meeting agency requirements.Ability to obtain and maintain Act 73, Act 33, and Act 34 Clearances.Commitment to supporting individuals utilizing multiple pathways of recovery, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and contribute to an inclusive workplace culture.PreferredCertified Recovery Specialist (CRS) credential.Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS) credential.Experience training, coaching, supervising, or mentoring staff.Two (2) or more years of experience working in substance use, behavioral health, or community-based human services programs.Knowledge of Allegheny County community resources and
