As we create a colorful, capable and cleaner world through chemistry, we invite you to join our team to harness the power of chemistry to shape markets, redefine industries and improve lives for billions of people around the world. The Chemours Product Development and Technology organization, located at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, Delaware, is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist to support advanced microscopy, materials characterization, and application-focused research across a broad range of Chemours technology platforms, including fluoropolymer systems, titanium dioxide materials, coatings, formulated products, and related industrial applications. This role is well suited for an experienced, hands‑on researcher who brings depth in materials characterization and microscopy applications, with desired experience in advanced microscopy techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), or related imaging and microanalysis methods. The Senior Associate Scientist will help connect material structure, morphology, dispersion, phase behavior, defects, interfaces, and surface characteristics to product and process performance by designing experiments, preparing samples, generating high-quality microscopy data, interpreting results, and communicating technical insights to product development, technical service, manufacturing, and business partners. What You’ll Do Prepare and analyze samples such as pigments, fluoropolymers, inorganic materials, coatings, films, powders, dispersions, formulated products, and related samples using microscopy and complementary characterization techniques. Plan and execute microscopy studies to evaluate morphology, particle size and shape, dispersion quality, phase structure, surface features, defects, interfaces, agglomeration, and material interactions within application systems. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot microscopy and sample preparation equipment. Develop, refine, and document sample preparation and imaging methods that improve data quality, repeatability, and relevance to technology and application performance questions. Analyze, interpret, and summarize imaging and characterization data to identify structure-property-performance relationships across multiple product and technology areas. Collaborate with product development scientists, technical service, process technology, manufacturing, and business teams to support new product development, troubleshooting, competitive analysis, process understanding, and customer application needs. Communicate technical findings through written reports, presentations, recommendations, and clear visual summaries for scientific and business audiences. Contribute to safe laboratory operations by following procedures, supporting hazard reviews, maintaining equipment readiness, and improving characterization workflows. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Microscopy, or a related technical field >3 years’ demonstrated experience in microscopy, materials characterization, analytical testing, or application-focused laboratory research. Ability to prepare samples, conduct experiments, generate reliable data, and interpret results with scientific rigor. Strong data analysis and technical problem‑solving skills, including the ability to connect characterization results to material behavior or application performance. Ability to independently manage experimental work, prioritize technical requests, and adapt to changing project needs. Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex technical information clearly. Collaborative working style with the ability to partner across R&D, technical service, engineering, manufacturing, and business teams. Commitment to safe, responsible, and well‑documented laboratory work. Preferred Qualifications Experience with advanced microscopy techniques such as SEM, TEM, STEM, FIB-SEM, cryo‑preparation, microtomy, or related imaging methods. Experience with microscopy sample preparation for fluoropolymers, polymers, films, coatings, powders, dispersions, inorganic materials, pigments, or formulated systems. Familiarity with microanalysis or image analysis techniques, such as EDS, elemental mapping, particle size and shape analysis, phase or defect analysis, dispersion assessment, or quantitative microscopy workflows. Experience studying fluoropolymer systems, polymer morphology, coatings, films, inorganic particles, titanium dioxide, formulated products, or industrial materials. Experience developing or improving characterization methods, standard operating procedures, equipment practices, or laboratory workflows. Ability to translate microscopy observations into practical technical recommendations for product development, troubleshooting, process understanding, or application performance improvement. Experience mentoring junior researchers, coordinating technical requests, or serving as a subject‑matter resource for characterization or microscopy applications.
