Mechanical Technician III

The Position The Mechanical Technician III is the senior class in the Mechanical Technician series within the Maintenance department. Under minimal direction, the Mechanical Technician III will lead, coordinate and perform a wide variety of professional duties relating to installation, preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment, components, machinery and facilities. The successful candidate displays initiative through effective decision making in their work, pays close attention to detail, possesses strong communication skills and demonstrates follow through, while performing a variety of technical, operational and problem solving activities. Immediate Impact Within the first 6 months, become familiar with the use and management of the Maximo Work Order System, to include creation, progression, completion and scheduling of work orders. Within the first 6 months, demonstrate ability to utilize the Purchasing system to create a Requisition Self Service for an outside vendor. Within the first 9 months, create and present a 30-45 minute training session on a repair process o the candidates choice. Within the first 12 months, provide a written assessment of the status of all primary mover equipment in the assignment work area for both water and wastewater, to include recommendations for repair, overhaul or replacement. The Ideal Candidate Is an engaging team player, looking out for the common good of the organization, who will act with integrity in accordance with the accepted ethical standards of the District and applicable laws and regulations. Will demonstrate the ability to lead a crew in the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Section. Possesses an education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college level coursework or trade school training in mechanical maintenance or a related field. Has 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment used in the distribution, collection and treatment of water and wastewater systems. Possesses or must obtain a valid California Class B Driver's License with Air Brakes and Tank endorsements within 12 months of employment. Possesses or must obtain crane operator certifications issued by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators within 24 months of employment. Possesses a valid Grade II Mechanical Technology Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association upon hire, must obtain a Grade III Mechanical Technology Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within 18 months of employment. Possesses a valid Grade II Water Distribution Operator License issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (within 12 months of hire). Possesses a valid Grade I Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association; Grade II is desirable.
