RN - Endo

Registered Nurse (RN)

This position offers a total of 4 endoscopy rooms, 20 pre-operative bays, and 14 post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays.

Required Experience

• Registered Nurse: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Level 1 or 2 trauma settings
• Endoscopy Technician: Minimum of 1 year of experience

Patient Types

Caring for patients undergoing upper and lower endoscopy procedures, including advanced techniques such as:

• Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
• Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
• Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
• Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
• Colonoscopy

Responsibilities include pre-operative and post-operative care (Phase I and Phase II), with some patients requiring ICU-level care.

Patient Ratios

• Endoscopy: 1:1
• Pre-Op: 1:2
• PACU Phase I: 1:1 or 1:2, based on patient acuity
• PACU Phase II: 1:2-3

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse: BLS, ACLS
• Endoscopy Technician: BLS

Required Education

• Registered Nurse: Completion of an approved nursing education program; must be licensed by the state board of nursing
• Endoscopy Technician: High School diploma or GED (required); completion of an accredited program (preferred)

Skills Required

• Registered Nurse: Proficiency in endoscopy procedures, including advanced techniques (EUS, EBUS, ERCP), with anesthesia support for sedation.
• Endoscopy Technician: Comfort in performing advanced endoscopic procedures, including stenting and other interventional GI techniques; responsible for processing scopes and versatility in job roles.

Support on the Unit

An interdisciplinary team consisting of 6 RNs/Endoscopy Technicians, with anesthesia providing sedation in all cases.

Charting System/Equipment

• EPIC
• ION robot for robotic-assisted bronchoscopy
• Omnicell
• Alaris

Floating

Staff may float as needed to Pre-Op, PACU, or floor units. Note that floating to the main operating room as a primary RN is not permitted.

Orientation

A comprehensive orientation program lasting 1 week will be provided.

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend
• Call responsibilities include one overnight shift per week and every 3rd weekend
• Sleep accommodations available in the Pre-Op/PACU area during call
• Shift variations include 0630-1500, 0730-1600, 0830-1700, and 0900-1800

Holiday Expectations

Staff are expected to work 2 out of 4 major holidays. Time off must be approved by management, and voluntary low census opportunities may be available without pay.
