Inspired by the legacy of Black Wall Street and the residents of Tulsa, GLC seeks to pay tribute to the past, empower the present, and cultivate a vibrant future for the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood community through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and community-driven development. A key focus of GLC is to oversee the implementation of the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan, fostering economic opportunities, cultural preservation, and community well-being in the district. It aims to transform 56 acres of publicly owned land into a vibrant, mixed-use district forging pathways for future community wealth and cultural healing. GLC’s work is driven by an urgent reparative vision: to rebuild Black-led wealth and community control in Greenwood and Kirkpatrick Heights- redeveloping the historic destruction wrought by the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, urban renewal, and highway construction- all while preserving heritage, culture, and dignity. At the heart of Greenwood Legacy Corporation’s work is a steadfast commitment to honor the past without repeating it. The legacy of Greenwood, once a national model for Black entrepreneurship and community prosperity, demands that any development uplift, not erase. This means centering the voices, histories, and futures of Black Tulsans in every decision made. Stakeholders made clear: Black wealth is more than money. It is opportunity. It is ownership. It is legacy, dignity, and the ability to pass down knowledge, culture, and resources across generations. The revitalization of Greenwood must reflect a broad and inclusive vision of wealth that embraces cultural capital, safety, education, and intergenerational power- not just real estate or revenue. Position Summary: Executive Director The Greenwood Legacy Corporation Board of Directors is in search of an entrepreneurial and dynamic Executive Director (ED) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization, with a charge to drive the successful execution of the Kirkpatrick Heights-Greenwood Master Plan. The ED will work closely with the GLC Board of Directors, PartnerTulsa, the City of Tulsa, and a diverse array of community stakeholders to translate a bold, community-authored vision into tangible, lasting outcomes. This includes advancing catalytic development projects, forging strong partnerships with philanthropic, public, and private sectors, and ensuring community ownership remains central to every aspect of the organization’s work. The ED must be equally comfortable in community spaces and corporate boardrooms- able to articulate the historical and moral imperatives of the work while also navigating complex development, finance, and public-sector landscapes. In this early phase, the Executive Director will also be expected to operationalize the mission, guide strategic fundraising, and represent GLC to the public with credibility, care, and cultural competence. This is not a traditional leadership role; it is a deeply relational and highly entrepreneurial position that calls for humility, tenacity, and a radical commitment to equitable development. The successful candidate will be someone who leads with heart and backbone, listens deeply, communicates clearly, and can deliver results in a dynamic and often challenging environment. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership and Vision: Provide overall leadership and vision for GLC, ensuring strategic planning, goal setting, and execution are aligned with the organization's mission, values, and community priorities. Kirkpatrick Heights-Greenwood Master Plan Implementation: Serve as the chief executive responsible for implementing the Master Plan by directing strategy, overseeing execution, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring timely progress on development goals. Community Engagement and Relationship Building: Cultivate strong, trusting relationships across the Greenwood community, lead inclusive engagement efforts, and serve as a visible and accessible presence to ensure resident voices shape all aspects of GLC’s work. Fundraising and Resource Development: Design and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy- building relationships with funders, managing grants, and exploring earned income- to sustain both operations and implementation of the Master Plan. Organizational Development and Management: Build and manage an effective, mission-aligned team while overseeing day-to-day operations, fiscal management, and organizational systems that support a collaborative and equitable workplace. Partnership Development and Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with government, nonprofit, philanthropic, and cultural entities to advance shared goals and represent GLC across diverse public settings. Advocacy and Public Awareness: Advocate for the revitalization and preservation of Greenwood by raising public awareness, honoring its history, and collaborating with allies to promote community-led development. Board Relations: Work closely with the Board of Directors to support effective governance, provide timely updates, and collaborate on strategic and fundraising initiatives. Relationship Building and Community-Centered Leadership The Executive Director will embed themselves in North Tulsa, building authentic, trust-based relationships with residents and community stakeholders through ongoing presence, transparency, and active listening. They will demonstrate cultural competency by honoring the histories, values, and lived experiences of the community, ensuring their leadership style reflects a respect of these values alongside a nature of humility and empathy. They will display a clear competency in fostering inclusive collaboration and shared decision-making, with the end goal of cultivating a feeling of community ownership across all constituents. Their collaborative approach will help them sustain long-term partnerships critical to GLC’s success. Strategic Execution & Development Expertise The Executive Director will translate GLC’s vision into concrete, measurable action, leading with purpose, conviction, and the ability to drive complex initiatives at the intersection of land use, historic preservation, real estate development, and policy advocacy. They will manage multi-sector collaborations and balance strategic planning with operational execution, while proactively assessing risks and opportunities. This leader will bring real estate expertise, strong financial acumen, and the ability to set priorities, delegate effectively, ensure accountability, and allocate resources for impact. They should possess knowledge of lending, investing, and/or property management, with a demonstrated ability to build pipelines, and develop new offerings- delivering both financial performance and positive community outcomes. Experience in hands-on project management and data-informed decision-making will be essential to sustaining GLC’s momentum and maximizing its future impact. The Executive Director will be an articulate and inspiring communicator, able to effectively convey GLC’s mission to a broad range of stakeholders to generate support and drive action. Dynamic, trustworthy, and relationship-oriented, this leader will cultivate confidence among donors, investors, public officials, and community partners, forging strategic alliances that advance GLC’s mission. They will bring a proven track record in fundraising and resource development, with experience securing philanthropic gifts, government grants, and earned income to build a resilient financial foundation. Racial, Cultural, and Political Awareness The Executive Director will navigate Tulsa’s complex political landscape, marked by overlapping jurisdictions, historical trauma, and abuse of power, with both diplomacy and courage. They will leverage a nuanced understanding of racial and cultural dynamics, as well as predisposition towards listening to learn, to build bridges across public, private, philanthropic, and grassroots sectors, fostering inclusive and equitable partnerships. By advocating for policies and practices grounded in justice and community empowerment, they will further develop GLC’s reputation as a trusted leader driving systemic change. Mission-Driven Vision & Accountability The Executive Director will act as GLC’s compass, guiding every decision with a deep sense of responsibility to the community’s past, present, and future. They will foster a culture that inspires the team and community alike to show up with integrity and purpose every day. By weaving community feedback and clear metrics into how success is defined and pursued, they’ll ensure GLC’s work remains honest and impactful. Location, Compensation and Benefits The Executive Director will be expected to become an active, engaged presence within the Greenwood and North Tulsa communities. Building trust, cultivating relationships, and leading in a way that is rooted in place are essential to the role. While specific policies around office space, hybrid work, and day-to-day operations will be shaped by the Executive Director’s leadership, proximity, visibility, and presence are essential to the success of the role. Compensation for this role is commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The base salary range is $140,000-$160,000, accompanied by a strong benefits package and bonus potential.
