Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Must possess valid nursing license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Medical Intensive Care Unit experience - Surgical Intensive Care Unit experience - Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Management of patients with multi-system organ dysfunction or failure - Ability to obtain a 12 lead EKG/ECG - Central Venous Pressure Monitoring (CVP) experience - Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring experience - Chronic/Acute Renal failure management experience - Arterial line management - Blood product administration experience - Central line care and management experience - PICC line management experience - Starting and maintaining IVs experience - Continuous IV sedation experience - Emergency medications knowledge - Ability to titrate cardiac drips - Ability to titrate vasoactive drips - CVA/Acute Stroke management experience - Assistance with management of BiPAP - Care of ventilated patients experience - Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs) - Respiratory failure management experience - Suctioning (ETT, NT) skills - Ventilator management experience - Infection prevention knowledge - Isolation precautions and use of PPE - Phlebotomy experience - Care for surgical wounds with drains or Wound Vac experience Description: The position is for a registered nurse in a multidisciplinary intensive care unit. The nurse will be responsible for providing care to critically ill patients. Patient ratio is 1:2. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. First-time travelers are not accepted for this position. Certified nurses must have experience in a critical care environment. This unit deals with patients experiencing respiratory failure, ARDS, acute chest pain, cardiac issues, strokes, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, and sepsis. Unit details include pre and post-operative care for cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgeries. There is also a focus on medicine and neuro-medicine overflow, pre and post-transplant care, and end-of-life/organ donation processes. Special equipment used includes IV pumps, CRRT/dialysis machines, ventilators/BIPAP, and hemodynamic monitoring devices. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services among others. The role requires strong cardiac knowledge and the ability to float within service lines as needed.
