Grocery Clerk

Job Title

Essential Job Duties

1. Greet all customers and provide them with prompt, courteous service and assistance.
2. Maintain Unit Price Labels (tags) for all items, doing price changes as required.
3. Keep shelves and displays fully stocked and faced at all times.
4. Follow all safety procedures relating to opening cartons, rotation of product.
5. Cleans and organizes grocery area as well as walk-in and freezer.
6. Monitor grocery storage area for cleanliness, neatness and preparing for next shift; i.e. making bale, reclamation, plastic, pallets.
7. Handle damaged or return-to-stock products according to company policy, with priority attention given to refrigerated, perishable items, and sell by date.
8. Use and maintain equipment in good working order; immediately advise Department Manager or Store Management of any maintenance or equipment problems.
9. Maintain Department sanitation and QA standards, including sweeping, mopping, removing cardboard and refuse as needed, and being able to operate a baler or compactor.
10. Fully stock and rotate all merchandise in cases, shelves and other applicable displays according to tag allocation and department standards.
11. Unload and secure received product in appropriate storage areas using power or hand jack, carts, U-boats as needed
12. Block and face all products as assigned
13. Ensure that featured sale merchandise is attractively signed to stimulate sales.
14. Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, and bad merchandise/spoilage write offs in accordance with Company policies.
15. Utilize and maintain equipment as required by department; report any equipment problems immediately.
16. Adhere to all Federal, State and Local regulations as they pertain to the Grocery operation.
17. Observe all safety regulations when operating equipment.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years retail management experience.
• Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets preferred
• Have strong and clear communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to take and give direction, participating in a team environment.
• Have and show an outgoing and friendly behavior along with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with our customers.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6-8 hours.
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
• Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

Work Hours: Availability requirements include; but are not limited to; days, evenings, weekends, & holidays.

Work Location: One location
