Financial Analyst

Do you enjoy digging into data until the numbers actually make sense?

Beacon Recycling is looking for a Financial Analyst who can turn complex operational and financial information into clear, reliable insights that help us make better business decisions.

We operate four recycling yards and a large industrial shredder, which creates a wide range of data across purchasing, sales, inventory, material recovery, equipment performance, throughput, margins, and operating costs.

The right person for this role is analytical, precise, curious, self-directed, and comfortable working through complex information to understand what is really driving results.

This is not a position where you simply prepare the same report every month. You will help build the dashboards, KPIs, reporting processes, and analytical tools our leadership team uses to understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

What You'll Do

Turn Data Into Useful Information

You will analyze financial and operational information from across the company to identify trends, explain results, and help leadership make better decisions.

You will:

• Analyze profitability by location, product, customer, supplier, and operational activity.
• Monitor financial and operating performance and investigate meaningful variances.
• Identify trends, anomalies, and performance drivers within large datasets.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc analyses for management.
• Help leadership understand not only what happened, but why it happened.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Assist with capital investment and return-on-investment analysis.
• Analyze and maintain sales contract information.

Build Better Reporting Systems

A major part of this position will be improving how Beacon collects, analyzes, and presents information.

You will:

• Develop, maintain, and improve Power BI dashboards .
• Create standardized KPI scorecards for our recycling yards and shredder operation.
• Build executive dashboards that make complex information easier to understand.
• Automate reporting that is currently completed manually.
• Reduce unnecessary spreadsheet work.
• Develop repeatable reporting processes that can scale as Beacon grows.
• Improve the accuracy and reliability of information used for decision-making.

Our goal is not simply to create more reports. It is to create better information with less manual work.

Understand the Operation Behind the Numbers

Our financial results are driven by what happens in our recycling yards, purchasing processes, inventory, and shredder operation.

You will analyze areas such as:

• Shredder throughput and recovery rates.
• Material yield.
• Downtime and cost per ton.
• Feedstock purchasing performance.
• Inventory levels and inventory turns.
• Working capital utilization.
• Operational efficiency.
• Location and product profitability.

You will also work directly with managers and operational leadership to understand what is driving the numbers and where improvement opportunities may exist.

Dig Into the Data

Our information comes from multiple systems, and real-world operational data is not always perfectly organized.

You will:

• Extract and validate information from ERP, scale, accounting, and operational systems.
• Investigate unusual results and reconcile information when data sources do not agree.
• Improve data consistency and reporting reliability.
• Establish repeatable methods for collecting and analyzing information.
• Help develop practical data governance standards.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and eliminate unnecessary manual processes.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, Economics, Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, operations analysis, business analytics, FP&A, or a similar role.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query and complex data analysis.
• Experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI or a similar BI platform.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with large and complex datasets.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain findings to both financial and operational teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing SQL queries.
• Manufacturing, industrial, recycling, commodities, logistics, or distribution experience.
• Knowledge of cost accounting, operational KPIs, or performance management.
• Experience with ERP systems and data integration tools.
• Familiarity with Python, Power Automate, or other analytical tools.

During your first year, success will include:

• Developing standardized KPI dashboards for all four recycling yards and our shredder operation.
• Significantly reducing manual spreadsheet reporting.
• Improving visibility into profitability and operational performance.
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting with better analytics.
• Identifying and quantifying operational improvement opportunities.
• Establishing reliable, repeatable reporting processes across multiple data sources.
