Role Description As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. Role Responsibilities Independently develop and implement concepts for a range of significantly complex product issues and engineering solutions Lead or execute engineering projects and spearhead research and development of new technologies Identify and troubleshoot a wide range of significantly complex engineering problems Specify or perform significantly complex engineering analysis Communicate with internal and external customers regarding significantly complex engineering issues to address customers’ High Value Problems (HVP) for a range of products Generate product specifications; define, coordinate, perform and document engineering tests Specify the development, design, or modification of complex engineering layouts, schematics, drawings, or specifications Specify and review engineering documentation and engineering processes Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree 10‑15 years of experience Deep technical expertise in your field and deep knowledge of the Applied Materials product life cycle, as well as in‑depth knowledge of other disciplines within your function Strong interpersonal and communication skills to explain difficult or sensitive information and to build consensus This role is part of a team taking a dry etch chamber from initial customer rollout to high volume production. The team will generate hardware improvements to resolve issues identified by our process team and customers. It will be a very hands‑on role with design, drawing, and hardware construction as well as lab installation and testing. Travel of approximately 25% of the time will be required, with visits to labs and customers in Asia to collect requirements and test new hardware. Experience with etch is a major plus, but we’ll also consider experience in other vacuum systems (e.g., CVD, PVD). Experience with designing RF components, RF power delivery best practices and match design is also useful.
