Dental Assistant - Pediatrics

The Dental Assistant assists the Dentist during examination and treatment of patients and is responsible for preparing patients for procedures, recording medical histories, taking x-rays, and preparing dental equipment.

Position Summary:

With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, Dental Assistants will:

Prepare patient for dental treatment procedures by welcoming, comforting and seating patient.

1. Provide instrumentation by sterilizing, disinfecting, and delivering instruments to the treatment area. Set up instrument tray and position instruments for Dentist's access.
2. Provide materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth.
3. Assist dentist during dental procedures.
4. Provide proper triage for patients. Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.
5. Assist Dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
6. Educate patients in oral hygiene and plaque control.
7. Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Dentist.
8. Record treatment information in patient records. Document dental care services by charting pertinent information in EHR.
9. Assist patients in scheduling appointments, follow-up care, referrals, and medication refills.
10. Clean and stock exam rooms to maintain par levels.
11. Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
12. Provide diagnostic information by exposing and developing dental x-rays.
13. Fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
14. Assist team to maintain proper clinic flow.
15. Participate in collaborative measures.
16. Follow and initiate policy for standing orders.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Graduate of a Dental Assistant Program or Associates (A.A.) Degree from a Community College or technical school
• 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish Required
