Job Description

The Field Technician II supports field testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power equipment in a hands-on, field-based role. This position works with low, medium, and high voltage electrical apparatus such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, grounding systems, instrument transformers, motors, and related equipment. The role requires frequent travel, regular overtime, strong safety awareness, and a desire to grow within electrical testing and power systems, with clear pathways toward NETA certification.

Responsibilities

• Travel locally and regionally to customer sites to perform electrical testing and maintenance work on power distribution equipment.
• Assist with testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, cleaning, and maintaining electrical power equipment, including low, medium, and high voltage systems.
• Work safely around energized and de-energized low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems in a variety of field environments.
• Support testing on equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motors, potential transformers (PTs), capacitive coupled voltage transformers (CCVTs), current transformers (CTs), and related apparatus.
• Use and learn electrical testing equipment such as megger testers, ductor testers, Hi-Pot equipment, power factor testing instruments, and CT ratio/saturation testing equipment.
• Read and reference manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation to assist in diagnosing and resolving equipment issues.
• Document test results, maintenance activities, repairs, and field findings in a clear and accurate manner.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures, actively participate in job site safety meetings, and help identify potential hazards on site.
• Communicate safety concerns and technical issues to the crew lead or experienced technician in a timely and professional manner.
• Interact professionally with customers at their facilities, representing the company with strong communication and service-oriented behavior.
• Continue developing technical knowledge and skills with the goal of progressing toward NETA certification.
• Attend periodic safety trainings and NETA certification preparation sessions to maintain and enhance technical and safety competencies.

Essential Skills

• 2+ years of experience in the electrical power, utility, industrial, electrical contractor, or closely related field environment.
• Hands-on experience working with electrical systems, electrical equipment, or power distribution equipment.
• Experience performing electrical testing, commissioning, or maintenance on power systems and equipment.
• Ability to work comfortably in the field approximately 95% of the time, often at customer sites.
• Experience working with electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motors, CTs, PTs, CCVTs, and other low, medium, and high voltage apparatus.
• Familiarity with using electrical test instruments, including megger testers, ductor testers, Hi-Pot equipment, power factor testing equipment, and CT ratio/saturation testing tools.
• Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Strong safety awareness and commitment to following established safety policies and procedures.
• NETA certification or equivalent experience that aligns with NETA standards and practices.
• Willingness and ability to travel locally and regionally and to work regular overtime, typically 5–10 hours per week.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in data center environments is a plus.
• Interest in pursuing and maintaining NETA certification, with willingness to attend training sessions and study for exams.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for professional interaction with customers and team members.
• Ability to work both independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a technical crew.
• Comfort with using laptops and mobile devices to document work, access technical information, and communicate with the team.

Work Environment

This is a predominantly field-based role, with approximately 95% of time spent at customer sites performing electrical testing and maintenance on low, medium, and high voltage equipment. The position involves local and regional travel, with most projects based in and around Fayetteville, GA, and occasional travel to Nashville for safety trainings and NETA certification groups. Overtime is typical, averaging about 5–10 hours per week. Team members use specialized electrical testing equipment such as megger testers, ductor testers, Hi-Pot units, power factor testing instruments, and CT ratio/saturation testing tools, along with company-provided cellphone and laptop. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for work-related travel, along with a company card for hotels and per diem when traveling. The work is primarily performed on customer sites, with an office available in Fayetteville for occasional use, such as having lunch or meeting with colleagues. The environment emphasizes safety and ongoing professional development, including 2–3 training classes per year focused on NETA certification preparation. The company supports field technicians with annual allowances for work boots, prescription safety goggles if needed, and fire-retardant clothing, contributing to a professional and safety-focused dress code appropriate for electrical field work. Additionally, there are structured pay increases and bonuses tied to achieving NETA Level II, III, and IV accreditations, reflecting a culture that rewards certification, technical growth, and long-term career development.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nashville, TN.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
