Position Summary The Instrument Mechanic installs, calibrates, configures, programs, modifies, diagnoses and repairs control valves, electronic, computerized, and electro‑mechanical equipment. They perform preventative and corrective maintenance on distributed control systems (DCS), continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) and all associated instrumentation. Instrument Mechanics work predominantly independently but collaborate with fellow technicians, contractors, operators and vendors as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Work a rotating shift schedule. Perform and document maintenance calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, repair of electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and systems (transmitters, switches, analyzers, control valves, relays, etc.) to ensure a safe and reliable operating unit. Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on automated control systems (PLC/DCS) and computer workstations to keep the unit producing on time and quality product. Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, pressure transducers, RTDs, nuclear levels, etc. Repair and maintain environmental and continuous emissions monitor system (CEMS). Use knowledge of instrumentation and electrical test equipment. Assist with Quality Improvement Projects to facilitate continuous improvement. Perform all duties in a manner consistent with environmental, health, and safety policies. Provide daily support to all plant operations to maintain 24/7 operations. Be willing to work overtime and provide off‑hours call‑out support when required. Perform scheduled and non‑scheduled preventive maintenance (PM). Communicate with planners and order non‑stock parts. Read and understand manuals, schematics and P&ID’s. Document and maintain equipment history to track reliability and determine when to perform repairs or replacements. Assist with maintaining site instrumentation and electrical technical documentation to keep equipment design, technical drawings, loop sheets, specification sheets and process changes current. Be willing and able to be trained and learn new technologies as an Instrument Technician to advance with new technologies and applications. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. At least 2 years of troubleshooting as an instrumentation technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or an associate’s degree in instrumentation. Additional Qualifications Instrumentation certification preferred. 5 years of troubleshooting as an instrumentation technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred. Knowledge of Experian systems preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills preferred. Experience wearing personal protective equipment (fire‑retardant clothing) preferred.
