Radiology Technologist - Per Diem

Wage Range: $47.61-$76.50 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adheres to all hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Health & Healing principles. Performs radiographic procedures at a technical level and does not require constant supervision. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Rotates call service support with other Radiology Technologist staff. Performs clerical tasks (filing, maintaining logbooks, retrieving films, etc.). Maintains and documents continuing education credits as required by ARRT. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Provides patient care. Adheres to all infection control policies and procedures. Participates in department QA processes as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology. Must be licensed as a Radiology Technologist (RT) with the State of Washington, current certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Minimum of one-year previous radiology experience preferred.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Functional with designated radiation emitting, processing and record retrieval equipment, CPR and life saving equipment. Film Digitizer. Good critical thinking skills required. Patient care. Clerical and computer skills required. Patient transfer methods. Must be able to communicate in the English language.

Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity against hepatitis B, and training related to blood-borne pathogens is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials Radiation emitting equipment. Film processing with chemicals. Fluctuating workload. Risk of exposure to communicable diseases, and risk of physical injury from lifting, moving or transferring patients.

WORK CONTACT GROUP: All hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel, and medical staff.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher and transfer patients to the ra­diology table as necessary. Stands and walks for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, push and pull. Must be able to transport, transfer and assist patients as needed using “Zero Lift” techniques and equipment. Operates technical equipment requiring manual and visual dexterity. Must be able to pull, lift, file, and carry patient folders weighing up to 15lbs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs radiographic procedures using appropriate positioning tech­nical factors per departmental pol­icy and pro­to­cols. Demonstrates an understanding of and utilization of anatomical land­marks for proper positioning; places left, right appropriate marker on each film. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the C-arm, portable machine, Rad and Tomo rooms.

• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of ALARA. Wears film badge and turns in for monthly evaluation, and exercises necessary radiation protection for patients, self and all other personnel.

• Ensures that patients are properly identified and prepared for radio­logical procedures; provides protective shielding as required.

• Performs other related duties incidental to diagnostic radiology, such as filing, answering telephones, faxing reports, and documenting patient quality care issues, as appropriate. Participates in department QA processes as assigned.

• Monitors work schedule and patient flow in the department continuous­ly to minimize patient delays, customer complaints and makes productive use of downtime.

• Remains knowledgeable and practices all current department specific and hospital wide policies and proce­dures, and protocols.

• Participates in required in-service education; maintains departmental competencies and ARRT continuing education.

• Provides patient care (ensures that patient is properly clothed and draped for procedure, explains procedure to patient and family or significant other as appropriate) facilitates patient comfort by demonstrating respect for their modesty, warmth and as pain free as possible. Monitors medical equipment at­tached to patient, such as IV and foley catheter, etc.

• Demonstrates respect for patient's dignity and privacy and maintains patient's confidentiality.

• Maintains cleanliness and safety (washes/sanitizes hands prior to and after each patient contact), adheres to all infection control policies and procedures.

• Transports and transfers patients as needed using “Zero Lift” techniques and equipment.

• Documents and query patient when screening for contrast allergies, prior reaction, pregnancy, evaluates possible need for pre-medication with Radiologist.

• Provides or assists with orientation of new staff and existing staff as required.

• Ensures that requisitions are completed; appropriately enters charge code and x-ray number for patient exams and completes patient's film folder for Radiologist review and returned to ED in a timely manner.

• Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors when interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful re­sulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.

• Uses an under­standing of the principles of growth and development to assess each pa­ti­ent's age spe­cific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.

• Participates in "On Call" duties in the department.

• Performs other duties as required.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
