As an Optometric Technician, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient experiences from start to finish. Working directly with our optometrists, you will perform preliminary testing, manage clinical equipment, facilitate contact lens instruction, and assist with specialized neuro-optometric rehabilitation evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Diagnostic Testing

• Perform preliminary testing, including visual acuity, auto-refraction, depth perception, color vision, blood pressure, lensometry, keratometry, and tonometry.
• Execute advanced diagnostic testing (corneal topography, visual fields, pachymetry, ocular motor assessments, and advanced imaging).
• Administer diagnostic dilating drops and topical medications under physician direction.
• Clean, sanitize, and sterilize exam lanes and equipment between patient visits.

2. Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Support

• Assist optometrists during comprehensive neuro-optometric evaluations by gathering specialized sensory, perceptual, and visual-motor data.
• Conduct preliminary checks for functional vision conditions, double vision, visual field loss, and oculomotor deficits.

3. Patient Education & Contact Lens Care

• Conduct contact lens application and removal (A&R) insertion training for patients.
• Manage trial contact lens inventory and hygiene protocols.
• Educate patients on preventative eye care and treatment plans.

4. Administrative & Front Desk Collaboration

• Warmly greet patients upon arrival and ensure their concerns are heard and addressed.
• Cross-train at the front desk to assist with patient scheduling, insurance verification, co-pay collection, and triage.
• Complete accurate EHR charting using standard medical coding (CPT/ICD) and SOAP formatting while maintaining strict HIPAA compliance.

Experience & Tiered Career Pathways

We welcome applicants ranging from entry-level to advanced certified technicians:

• Tier I (Entry-Level): High school diploma or equivalent. Basic history taking, pre-testing, front desk cross-training, and contact lens instruction (on-the-job training provided).
• Tier II (Experienced): 1+ years of ophthalmic/optometric experience. CPOA or ABO/NCLE credential preferred. Proficient in advanced diagnostics, history taking, and medical scribing.
• Tier III (Advanced/Lead): 2+ years of experience. CPOT, COT, or COMT certification preferred. Experienced in neuro-optometric evaluations, advanced refractions, and complex contact lens fittings.
