Job Description
This long-term, full-time role focuses on modifying, repairing, and maintaining military aircraft, with a strong emphasis on weight reduction modifications and avionics equipment upgrades for electronic warfare aircraft. The Avionics Technician / Electrician applies deep knowledge of aircraft electrical systems and wiring to install, remove, and troubleshoot complex avionics and weapons systems on F/A-18 and EA-18G platforms, ensuring safe, reliable, and mission-ready aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Build, install, and remove aircraft wire harnesses using electrical theory, wiring practices, and applicable technical documentation.
- Test, terminate, and troubleshoot wiring and avionics systems using appropriate testing equipment and tools.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to perform accurate installations and modifications.
- Perform avionics equipment upgrades and modifications on electronic warfare aircraft, focusing on weight reduction and system optimization.
- Support maintenance and troubleshooting of avionics software on F/A-18 and EA-18G aircraft, including loading, testing, and diagnosing software-related issues.
- Maintain and troubleshoot weapons systems, including ALQ-99 pods and related jamming or electronic warfare equipment.
- Document work performed in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, and technical publications.
- Collaborate closely with general mechanics, structures mechanics, and inspectors to ensure coordinated and compliant aircraft maintenance and modification activities.
- Assist teammates with Powerplant, Airframe, Environmental Control Systems (ECS), and other mechanical tasks as needed.
- Handle routing, termination, replacement, and repair of wiring and, when applicable, fiber optic systems.
- Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working in hangar and flightline environments.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working on F/A-18 or EA-18G aircraft in one or more system specialties such as RADAR, ECM, AEA, or COMM/NAV.
- Hands-on experience with avionics software on F/A-18 or EA-18G, including loading, testing, and troubleshooting software.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting weapons systems, including ALQ-99 pods or similar jamming systems.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft electrical theory, wiring practices, and avionics systems integration.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams for aircraft systems.
- Ability to build, install, remove, test, terminate, and repair aircraft wire harnesses.
- Experience using electrical and avionics test equipment to diagnose and resolve system issues.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Eligibility to obtain required site and contractor badges in accordance with customer requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with mechanics, inspectors, and other technical personnel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Fiber optics experience, including routing, termination, replacement, and repair, is preferred.
- Experience supporting electronic warfare aircraft and associated avionics modifications is highly beneficial.
- Familiarity with Environmental Control Systems (ECS), Powerplant, Airframe, and general mechanical systems on military aircraft.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across avionics, weapons, and electrical systems.
- Attention to detail and thorough documentation habits when performing maintenance and modifications.

Work Environment
This position operates on a day shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with 8-hour shifts and occasional Saturdays as needed. Work is performed on base at a naval air station, primarily inside hangars with some tasks conducted on the flightline, resulting in limited exposure to outdoor elements. You will report to an on-site lead and may also coordinate with prime contractor customer leads. The environment is hands-on and highly technical, focused on military aircraft maintenance and modification. All necessary tools are supplied, and you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of mechanics, technicians, and inspectors in a structured, safety-conscious setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
