RN Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides skilled nursing care to patients in a high-risk obstetric environment. This role involves managing patient assessments, administering medications, coordinating care during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The nurse will work in a fast-paced acute hospital setting with a focus on maternal and fetal health, ensuring safety and quality care for mothers and newborns.

Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive patient assessments in OB triage, labor, delivery, and postpartum units.
Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
Provide care and monitoring for high-risk antepartum and laboring patients.
Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Manage patient flow in OB triage/testing and labor and delivery units.
Document all patient care activities accurately using Epic electronic medical records.
Provide education and support to patients and families regarding labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
Participate in emergency interventions and neonatal resuscitation as needed.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Active Registered Nurse license in Alaska (license in hand required for auto offer).
Minimum of 1 year relevant nursing experience; first-time travelers accepted.
Current BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced, and NRP certifications.
Strong clinical skills in labor and delivery nursing, including charge nurse experience or willingness to train.
Ability to use Epic electronic health record system.
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience working in high-risk labor and delivery or OB triage settings.
Charge nurse experience preferred.
Familiarity with Magnet hospital standards and Level II trauma facility operations.

Special Considerations:

No on-call required.
Weekend work required every other weekend.
Floating within similar units may be required.
Time off requests approved individually upon offer; all requests must be submitted with application.
Local candidates must reside at least 50 miles from facility.
Parking is free at the facility.

Scheduling:

13 or 26 week assignment.
Shift options: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour night shifts.
Guaranteed 60 hours per two-week pay period; may be called off for one 12-hour shift per two weeks.
Block scheduling accommodations not available.
