Sports Medicine Teacher

Fort Mill School District

Teaching Position

This is a teaching position only, does not include Athletic Trainer duties or stipend.

Position Purpose

This position develops and implements a sports medicine instructional program that will effectively meet the needs of all students. Sports Medicine is a Career and Technology Education Pathway in the Health Science Program for the state of South Carolina. Teaching candidates must possess endorsements in Health Science Technology or any high school certification. The Sports Medicine Program focuses on sports injuries, sports training, roles of sports medicine teams, health maintenance, technical skills as well as legal responsibilities of sports medicine providers.

Essential Functions
  • Completes required reports promptly and accurately.
  • Accepts responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to school.
  • Assumes responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care.
  • Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning.
  • Adapts and adjusts instructional presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests.
  • Maintains and organizes programs of instruction based on effective long-range plans.
  • Exhibits evidence of effective lesson planning.
  • Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
  • Communicates the lesson objective and its importance to students.
  • Utilizes appropriate and varied teaching techniques and learning activities both in class and out of class.
  • Maintains an effective system of monitoring student progress and informs appropriate persons of such progress.
  • Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
  • Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Works in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
  • Maintains a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
  • Complies with all District and School policies and regulations.
  • Pursues professional growth activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the subject being taught.
  • Ability to relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situation.
  • Ability to assess individual needs and performance.
  • Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes
Qualifications/Certification/License:
  • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  • South Carolina Certification in Health Science Technology or any high school certification, plus current valid State Athletic Trainer Certification

Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule

Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus. FLSA Status: Exempt
