Temporary Summer Camp Nurse - Columbia, NC

Eastern 4-H Center is seeking licensed RNs to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season! The Camp Nurse serves as a vital member of the Camp Health Care Team, overseeing all health care operations for approximately 128 residential campers and 30 seasonal staff members each week. The ideal candidate enjoys working with youth of all ages, handles unpredictable outdoor conditions, and thrives in a fast‑paced outdoor environment outside the clinical setting. Because the position is on the‑call, applicants must be able to reside on‑site (housing provided) or within a half‑hour commute of camp for the duration of the summer season. Essential Job Duties Eastern 4-H Center is seeking licensed RNs to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season! The Camp Nurse serves as a vital member of the Camp Health Care Team, overseeing all health care operations for approximately 128 residential campers and 30 seasonal staff members each week. The ideal candidate enjoys working with youth of all ages, has the ability to work in unpredictable outdoor conditions, and thrives in a fast‑paced dynamic environment outside the clinical setting. Due to the on‑call nature of this position, applicants must be able to reside on‑site (housing provided) or within a half‑hour commute of camp for the duration of the summer season. Primary Responsibilities Follow all health care policies and procedures as described in facility standing orders, treatment procedures, and Staff Manual. Be on call to respond to medical emergencies at all times campers are on‑site, including overnight. Perform basic assessment and first aid for conditions such as minor soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries, insect bites and stings, dehydration, sunburns, and general illness, and provide follow‑up checks as needed. Facilitate proper medication administration for both routine prescription and over‑the‑counter medications throughout the day. Maintain written medical records for all medications and treatments administered according to state and American Camp Association Standards. Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms. Oversee Sunday check‑in and Friday check‑out of all camper medications each week and discuss any medical concerns with parents or guardians as needed. Review all camper health forms and communicate medical needs to counselors as necessary. Manage a team of 1–2 Health Care Coordinators who may assist with primary and secondary responsibilities. Prepare and distribute campers’ medication schedule list to all counselors before dinner on Sundays. Secondary Responsibilities Attend all relevant staff trainings. Keep the camp infirmary and medical supply storage space clean and organized. Prepare and distribute all campus first aid kits, conducting routine checks and restocks as necessary. Perform medical supply and equipment inventory and place restock orders. Work Schedule Workdays will begin at noon on Sunday of each week and end at noon on Friday. These positions demand a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. The nurse will be on‑call 24/7, including overnight, meal times, and during activities to ensure the overall health of campers and staff. Lodging is provided seven days a week if needed, and meals are provided five days a week. Potential to modify to a part‑time role based on the applicant’s needs and experience. Department Required Skills Maintain a positive attitude and professionalism. Experience in nursing or medical field. Ability to administer medication. Ability to work independently and follow directions. Enjoy working with youth in an outdoor environment. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including high temperatures and inclement weather situations. Ability to communicate effectively with camp staff, parents or guardians, and campers. Use critical thinking in emergency situations outside the clinical environment and determine when a higher level of care is appropriate. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, and Education First Aid, CPR, or AED certified. Required License or Certification LPN, RN, or APRN license. Valid driver’s license.
