Job DescriptionThe Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine testing in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratory areas to aid physicians and clinical care teams in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for performing laboratory procedures to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of the disease or disease processes Performs diagnostic and serological testing for interpretation or therapeutic intervention as requestedPerforms various microscopic, chemical, hematological, immunologic, or bacteriologic assays according to established standardsCompletes all testing within the established time frame to aid in the treatment of the patientEnsures quality control in processing specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keepingVerifies equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced trouble shooting; calibrates equipment utilizing approved testing proceduresComplies with all laboratory policies and regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection controlCommunicates patient and health care information to the appropriate health care provider Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel or health care providerReports all critical tests and critical results to the appropriate health care provider in a timely mannerCompiles and records test results into the electronic health recordQualificationsEducation:Associate's Degree; NAACLS accredited Medical Lab Technician (MLT) program, or have completed equivalent military training as an MLT. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
